ableton 5
anyone got this yet? im interested by this feature

Quote:
Preview and combine AIFF, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC and MP3 audio files of any sample rate, size and bit depth
Real-time time-stretching of any audio file to play in sync with the project tempo
does this mean you'll be able to sample, sequence and fiddle with mp3s? will it show the wave form for mp3s? or is that too much to hope for.

to be honest i cant remember how good the mp3 functionality was on ableton4 - its been a while since i used it, and i uninstalled it to force me to do some revision

Re: ableton 5
you need to check out my mix in the "post your mix thread"....i did it all with ableton 5 and used only mp3s. it's a fantastic program and well worth the money. there was no mp3 functions on live 4. it's a monster, i'll say that. midi, mp3, aiff, wav...if you can think it, you can do it.

Re: ableton 5
there is one thing to add tho: you can directly load mp3s into the program, yes, but it will convert them to wave anyway in a so-called "decoding cache" folder. you can set the size of the folder so that it doesn't overflow your HD, but once one of the wave files is deleted and you load the track again it is going to analyze the waveform again, which takes some time. of course warpmarkers and stuff like that is saved in another file, but when you're doing a live mix and you want to quickly load a new track and you don't have the .wav cached you might get into trouble (especially on a slower PC)

speaking of that, my mixes in the Mixes Thread are done in Live as well. i also bought an evolution x-session controller the other day to have better control over it.

Re: ableton 5
I've got a BCR-2000 for live, since I use multiple outs and my DJ mixer, and therefore didn't need a controller with a crossfader. Love the BCR, can't beat the price. Endless knobs + LED position indictors = no more stupid jumping values when the knob doesn't match the value.

Re: ableton 5
i was considering a Kenton Control Freak Live at one point, which is a killer controller. but the Behringer B-Control line does look to be a better value for it's function/price.
