i saw fatboy slim on the telly - the music was pretty pony - but the stage show - definitely the best dj production i've seen. the booth was in the middle of a projector stack, so the visuals were going on all around him, all enhanced by thousands of pairs of 3-d glasses handed out to the crowd. there were lights with filters as well. a real treat.


shame about the music really - yes, it was tens-of-thousands-of-people-party music - but it was a bit dull and hopelessly mixed.

anyway - i want reports from the ground!

ok here's tiger rambling attempt at a glasto report

left Manchester at 12.30am wed night thus morning and didn't get camped near cinema field until 6am. then the hot sun broke through the misty cloud and turned my wendy house into a furnace so i got about an hours sleep. anyways thus was beautiful hot day, and they were lots of beautiful ladies walking around not wearing much, so who was i to moan about no sleep. didn't do too much all day, just explored the site, evening had bar-b-q next too stone circles whihc was class as lots of jugglers came out with fire and the glasto roar was in full effect, eventually crawled into bed at about 5am.

was then woke about an hour later by thunder/lightning and very heavy rain. my wendy house a glasto veteran laughed at me for thinking it could survive another glasto after the abuse its had over the years and proceeded to leak like a faulty tap. lucky i deflated my blow-up matress which was waterproof and wrapped eveything in it and evacauted to a mates tent. we then spent the next couple of hours holding the edges of the bottom of the his tent up of the ground to prevent the rivers coming down the hill getting in the tent. honestly the tent felt like it was sat on a waterbed, and when the rain stopped for a minute we looked out on an apolycapltic scene as everywhere looked to be under at least a few inches of water. went off to buy welllies which were unsuprisingly sold out so squelched through the mud rivers to the john peel tent where i caught the infadels.

never heard of them before, but what a live show they put on, so much energy came from the stage that they had the crowd cheering like mad, and by then noone was giving a shit about the mud. if u like dance/rock crossover music which i know a lot of you do i'd urge u to check them live, and if their record is anything like they play then hopefully they'll make it big. later on caught nine black alps who've some really good songs and sound great live, if u like nirvana then check out they're debut 'everything is'. after where maximo park who i enjoyed, but didn't blow me away like the two previous bands.

then walked, thou probably would have been easier to swim........off to pyramid and caught the zutons who have so many catchy songs its untrue, must say their 'who killed the zutons' is imo a great album. afterwards went to other stage where bambyshambles lived up to their name and were shambolic. songs did nothing for me, sound was terrible, and pete docherty looked out of it, not impressed at all. luckily bloc party came on and were superb despite the poor PA and the fact that the bassist was too high in the mix of the lead guitar, but they still rocked it

caught last three songs of killers and they sounded very tight, although very similar too album. afterwards I must say despite enjoying them, that i was disappointed by white stripes after all hype of heard. just felt they played too much noodly stuff and didn't stick to the catchy riffs that i love so much. friday night was a blur as festival came to life at night and you couldn't see the mud just feel it

sat was overcast all day and felt like it could rain at any minute but didn't.......after getting up, caught last half hour of goldie lookin chain who were halirious and put on a great show, after which kaiser chiefs came on and despite some crowdsurfing and funny inflatable dinosaur antics were disappointing and didn't doo much for me. also caught the depature who were an archetypal boring indie band with not much going for them. coral were ok, singles and hits sounded good, but rest kinda washed over me; however one of the bands of weekend were the subways and no its got nothing to do with their bassist being very sexy. only caught half an hour but they rocked and put on a great show, much better live than the records i've heard which don't carry the energy they do on stage.

Afterwards the Longcut (local lads from Manchester) came on and just blew me away, best band of weekend by a distance, their guitarist is a genius, the sounds he had coming out were just awesome. great songs, great sound, very tight drummer, just a shame he's also the singer and doesn't have the stage presence they need if they want to go very big, looked a little embarrassed up infront of mic and hasn't a good voice, but irrespective of that they still were amazing.

then i went to dance field and stayed their till after 5 in morning, had a great time and even managed to get chatting to the MC from atmoic Hooligan. can't remember too much from the nite but squarepusher was great and was in silent disco fro last half an hour. great concept, two djs who u can choose from, neither was that great, but just watching/listening to crowd was so funny. Particular highlights were two loved up girls chatting shit about how they were sorry for arguing earlier at the top of their voices, and half the tent jumping up and down shouting Jump Jump to House of Pain.

sunday i recovered and didn't make it out till 4pm when caught atomic hooligan and really enjoyed their set, they even played a breaks remix of cowgirl. lots of energy from stage and the lad alex i met was amazing at beatboxing. also caught the kills, who were good, sounded better when caught them supporting franz ferdinand last year when they were louder. primal scream were disappointing, gillespe was acting like a cock trying to wind the crowd up, shame as in 2003 they played one of the best sets i've ever seen. ian brown was cool, played i wanna be adored, waterfall, and a few other roses tracks which sounded good depsite the other stages poor sound, finished with FEAR after which i left. only made it an hour from site and had to pull over at services to sleep and didn't make it home till 7ish.

alll in all a great glasto, the mud just added to it, and can't wait for 2007

yeah, but Tiger, tell us about the MUD. what was it like? I saw the pics from the other stage, a lake there. and how were the markets? was it sticky mud? carrying kilos on your boots? any places to sit down? did it dry out on the sunday much? did you see any of the new stages? which field were you camped in? not at the bottom of Pennards?

stimpee the mud on fri was terrible, it seemed to grow and grow as people trampled around the sites, and in many places there were lakes of it, especially near the john peel tent, front of pyramid, and the whole of other stage field was still swamp like on sunday. luckily after fridays deluge we got no more rain so it dried up a bit, and they did a great job of putting straw down in the main walkways and in front of stalls so by sunday you could sit down in a lot of places as it dried up well on slopes, however some areas were cordoned off as there were still mud lakes in a few places, usually with a few sodden tents abandonded for good measure in them. however as my mate proved the mud lakes were very good for hiding your beer and keeping it cold however as it dried it became sticker and sticker and some areas were like walking thru treacle whereas others where like walking thru tepid soup

we camped near big cinema screen above and between pyramid and john peel tent. saw a lot of bands in john peel and wandered the dance stages on saturday night, but as walking in mud was such a ball ache i didn't scour the site looking for mad things like i've done in previous years

myself and ally were camped in pennards, we were okay cos we were half way up. down the bottom of the field the water was nipple deep, and some of the toilets had tipped over. so that was fun to walk thru.

silent disco - take ur headphones off and listen to people singing along = BEST
ie. the whole tent shouting "FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME, FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME......... MOTHER FUCKERRRRR!!!!" to ratm.
i got trench foot for a day, by sunday weather and mud was excellent. dont read nme review, they hate music.

The glasto coverage was absloute shite on the tv, only seemed to cover about 10 bands a day and most of the NME's fav bands.Even the red button was rubbish for picking stuff, just coldplay and bloody zutons.

i didn't go obviously - festivals & tents are for hippies...

i'm civilised - so watched it on TeaVee...but the coverage was pretty wank - like last time, where orbital played - they kept bloody switching between bands on stations, and they did show most of the big names...Keane looked good, as did the Zutons, New Order obviously, Roisin Murphy was cool too...

as for Coldpaly they can suck bono's cok...because i don't like them...so couldn't comment on their performance...

back to the mud i pity those fools who had to survive 3 days without new clothes, shelter or anything....still festivals = hippies so sod 'em...

thought the telly was better than last year (i saw a LOT of it ) - it's a very hard balance to strike - i didn't notice it being quite as short on attention as last year - certainly the bbc3 side of things was making a big claim to being central to the operation...
