Re: new single / mogwai/"Friend Of The Night"
it's okay. an appropriate single only to show the general tone of the album.
what the hell is up with mogwai, anyway? i'm in the severe minority that think "happy songs" was their strongest album, and even i honestly dont understand how slow some of these tracks are. the problem isnt how slow it is, but how listless it gets sometimes. is "emergency trap" just there so that when "folk death 95" shows signs of life it's actually kind of exciting? i'm just mad at the last half. it's not all bad. listening and paying attention all through is kinda special and feels nice, but if you're not really listening it just goes right through you. you dont understand how you could get to the sixth track and not remember any of it. |

Re: new single / mogwai/"Friend Of The Night"
I've heard the new album and it's a total mess. I'm really disappointed. 'Happy Songs...' was easily the most consistent mission statement that Mogwai produced so this comes a bit of a shock to me. I have to listen to it a few more times but that was my feeling on the first few run throughs.

Re: new single / mogwai/"Friend Of The Night"
ok, so 5 days later i'm sorta kinda hooked on it.
the beauty in this record is really not as force fed as it could have been. it's like a nice sunrise you don't take pictures of and enjoy instead. sorry if i'm not more concrete, i don't understand very well on why i get on with an album so well sometimes, especially not 5 days into it, but i am coming around to it. |
