Taller in More Ways
I seem to recall some discussion around "Three" at the tail end of 2003 - and this forum has never been one to shy away from the pop - so thoughts on the new Sugababes album?
I think it's fantastic, and possibly their strongest album as a whole - the only duff one is that terrible cover of 'Obsession', but if the material is shit it's hard to make it smell nice. 'Push the Button' isn't as immediate as say 'Round Round' or 'Hole in the Head', but it reveals itself to be one of their finest singles to date with a few listens, and I'd be hard pressed to name a better single or more deserved UK #1 this year. They'd be absolutely out of their minds to not release 'Red Dress' as a single - it's an insane cross between 'In the Middle' and 'Down Down' with a one/two knock out punch for a pre-chorus and chorus. 'Ugly' is an easy single - potentially #1 - seeing as it treads very similar ground to 'Unpretty' and 'Beautiful'. 'Joy Division' earns mad points for the finest use of the word delicatessen in a pop song, and the super smooth 'Bruised' defys it's subject matter. Didn't think they'd top "Three", but they did. Full points to the 'babes for one of the albums of the year. Well done girls. Take care, James |
