M83: Saturday = Youth
Thoughts?
It's certainly different from his last album although with a recognisable M83 'sound'. New wave/dream pop? I've only listened to it a couple of times so far and both times I've been doing other stuff. Think I need to give it a listen with my full attention, probably on headphones, before deciding what I think. Couleurs is pretty amazing though... Anyone else heard it yet? |

Re: M83: Saturday = Youth
yea... I've had a copy for a little while now, but honestly - I just can't really get into it!
I guess it means I need to devote some 'headphones time' to it as well! at least for when I'm walking about... |

The moments that shine, do. Not to crazy about poppier stuff, but only first listen.
Last track is gorgeous. Try listening to it in a rocking chair!

Re: M83: Saturday = Youth
the benefit to getting an mp3 player for your birthday where you can fit ALL the music you have is that you can listen to things on a whim, which i did for this album today after about a month of sitting around on my hard drive.
i cant believe i actually like it. the 80s is such a black hole for me, i can scarcely take anything from that decade seriously. overproduced, underproduced, cheesy, excessive... any good ideas got drowned in bad ones eventually. the whole look and feel of it lacked any real punch and just seemed like the growing pains of new technology. i know theres a lot of people who grew up and love what it all was and disagree, but i was born in 85. it was going away when i got to an age when i could remember it and its residuals in the early 90s were pretty lame. it's not like this album has a new twist on anything that modernizes it. there's no trace of irony or a new look, it's just that everything is how it would be if there werent those overenthused and embarrassing missteps that plagued so much of that decade (imo). that's not to say there isnt the typical heroic outpour of earnestness that M83 positively radiate at every opportunity, and it can be cheesy at times, but not cringingly so, because it's well-written and m83 is actually a good band. plus i just like listening to it. it's not an exercise in an interesting new flavor. it feels legit and complete. i would have bought the CD today if i wasnt a little strapped right now, but i certainly plan to. |

Im gonna wait till I end up buying it till I make an opinion. I miss the days where opening a record and shoving the CD in was a thrill. So far though I've only heard one Portishead single which i'm impressed with.
