I don't know, as far as Miyazaki movies goes, this one wasn't, well, great like I've come to expect. Don't get me wrong, I liked it. Just...I don't know. Didn't quite work for me the way most of his movies do.

Re: howl's moving castle
the ending was almost as bad as castle in the sky, but not enough to ruin the totally awesome rest of the movie.
it's like robofrance 1829 in two of those dimensions.

Re: howl's moving castle
The ending of the original novel is about as abrupt as the film.

I really enjoyed this movie, especially on repeat viewings.

I still think my favorite Miyazaki movie is The Castle of Cagliostro. And probably Porco Rosso after that.

I liked it, but not as much as some of Miyazaki's previous films (Porco Rosso is still my favourite). I agree with dubman, the ending was pretty silly. The dialog in one of those last scenes drew a lot of unintentional laughter from theatre-goers when I went to see it. Fair enough if it was the same in the book though.

Re: howl's moving castle
I'm just gonna come out and say it. Overrated.

I'm in the same boat as gambit, though I'm feeling more bored and tired, yes it was wonderfully beautiful to look at and told a very whimsical story but it just didn't sell me the first time I saw it last summer when it opened theatrically here in the states.

Incidentally, it's still playing at this second run brew pub theater I work at in Portland on the weekends running the projectors. I watched most of the film again and was still not moved by it. Unintentional laughter was abound during the final few minutes during Saturday afternoon's showing.

I do enjoy Miyazaki's films and even though I didn't like this particular one as a whole, there were many wonderful aspects to it.
