Listening to both mixes again, I wouldn't be surprised if the Hard mix was a Darren production because it does bear resemblance to some other UW remixes of other artists from that early period; while the Soft mix sounds very much like the sort of Rick productions we still hear today.

Yes, I agree with khouri and TheBang. It makes sense. Hard Mix have Darren Emerson touch in this. And take for example hard tracks from STITI era, similar to this Hard Mix. Darren Emerson is very important for making Underworld harder tracks, you know these beats. Classic Underworld. But yeah, we can only speculate, but when you connect the dots... It makes sense.
