Re: Karl Hyde solo album - Edgeland, April 22, 2013
This cut is amazing. I like it so much better than "Jigsaw Puzzle."

I think I actually prefer the score for The Outer Edges to the songs on Edgeland. I suppose the score is more Underworldy. I find myself not listening to any of the Edgeland tracks on their own, but I'll put on the record when I want a consistent tone to accompany what I'm doing or thinking. In that way it's a real proper album; Karl identified a sound and built a collection around it. But I wish I could listen to the isolated film score too.

I'm saving my first listen for when I actually have time to focus on the album. Going on a family road trip soon and hope to give it a proper airing then...it's been a while since I've had a car and I miss highway listening! (Yes, I once received a speeding ticket for going over 100 mph to "Pearl's Girl.") |

Yeah, with some of the percussive flourishes stripped out, making it sound more like some of the soft Underworld jams they'd sprinkle throughout the radio broadcasts.
