Tron Legacy - The Soundtrack

It's leaked. So far so good. Nothing that screams Daft Punk after 5 tracks or so and the majority of the tracks are between 1:30 and 2:30 in length.

Just heard it. Sounds like real standard soundtrack fare to me. Besides one track ("Derezzed") you'd never know that Daft Punk did it. I'm kind of torn as to whether or not to see this movie. I really, really wish Disney was not backing it and I know the story cannot possibly be any good but it looks like it might be worth it for the visuals alone. Hell, I even enjoyed Speed Racer despite that being terrible from every other measure. Who knows.

99% of it is your typical soundtrack stuff.

Not even Pitchfork seems to like it. Weird, because they were hyping this album nonstop for the last three months.

Re: Tron Legacy - The Soundtrack

they didn't expect the majority of the songs to be crap...fantastic for the film.
bad for the dance floor.
too much hooplah regarding the Daft Punk name.
they haven't done much at all.
but they are getting paid...huge.

Re: Tron Legacy - The Soundtrack

as a soundtrack - I still think it's quite good, and there are like 4-5 very "Daft Punk sounding" songs, like somewhere between Human After All and Discovery.

And I'm kind of confused about people complaining that it "isn't Daft Punk-y enough" ...I mean, there were quite a few previews/leaks of the tracks, and they were indicative of the final release

(although - I do miss that one song labeled as "The Crash" ...or was that a *fake* DP song?)

but you know what... this seems to be the pattern with every Daft Punk release - everyone hates it at first, then a period of time goes by and it gets reevaluated and "everyone" claims they always liked it

They should have released this under their real names or a different band name.

Well obviously there's money to be made and the Daft Punk name is still huge, I'm sure this is going to sell a ton from people still nostaglic for Discovery. Yeah it's silly to be disappointed that this is just regular soundtrack stuff but given the way outlets like Pitchfork have hyped this, isn't it natural?? I mean didn't U2 do a similar thing with the Passengers album that got people up in arms?

Re: Tron Legacy - The Soundtrack

yea - U2 changed their name to "the Passengers" for an album that was pretty much all "soundtrack-y" stuff. I think at one point in time, a few songs were supposed to be on a specific film... but it got scrapped, then it evolved into an album... (?)

although - that was also b/c Brian Eno (and Howie B) were given more free reign, and were actual "band members"

Everyone needs to accept this release as to what it is: a movie score with minimal electronic elements.

I think everyone seemed to think the soundtrack was going to be a Daft Punk album...

For what it is - I think it's great. There are a few tracks I could skip, but the majority is not bad for a movie score... really, who, aside from Classical music enthusiasts listen to movie scores? I don't mind classical music... but I wouldn't grab a movie soundtrack for the pleasure of listening to it.

This one - I can honestly say I would. :D

Re: Passengers: there was only one song used for a film- Miss Sarajevo.
It was all a concept album with Eno. I believe they said: What if we scored a film... don't think it was ever real...

well... the movie Heat got "Always Forever Now" (an extended version though) and one track made it onto Ghost in the Shell

actually - just checked the wikipedia article about it

it's a worthwhile read... so basically, it started as something for a real film... then evolved into one of Eno's "Music for Film" style projects, I guess

...not that everything you read on wikipedia is true though.

(and yes - most/all of the film descriptions in the booklet are fake)

it's actually my favorite U2 album

Hmmm.... so I stumbled across this if anyone is interested. Looks like there may have been a sequel in the works back in 99 that never happened. As far as the script goes, it seems valid. However, I'm not sure if this soundtrack is legit or not... at any rate it's a good listen and the cover art is pretty cool...
