Real + Imaginary Flowers = Too Big!
I finally threw out my copy of Real and Imaginary Flowers.. I kept trying to find safe places for it in my house but no matter where I put it, it kept getting dinged and torn by other objects or people, simply because it was too big to store anywhere. So, now it's in the trashcan!
Tomato, make your books normal sized please.

I'm trying to understand your logic here, but can't seem to grasp it. It was getting dinged up so instead of keeping it and letting have some character and wear and tear you throw it out?
What the hell? I would have gladly taken it. I've got a copy of Process that a friend's dog chewed up along one corner and it looks great beat up. Sure I've got books that I like pristine and nice like some advance reader copies of novels and hard back books with lots of glossy pictures, but I've got plenty of other books that are dog eared and tattered. I guess thats just me though. |

Re: Real + Imaginary Flowers = Too Big!
Have you seen it? It's literally four feet tall.
I just can't justify it's size compared to what's in it. It's thin, the pages are mostly empty space. It's big for the sake of being big, and was the largest book I owned (even against a few oversized comics.. Art Spigeleman's "In the Shadow of No Towers" gave it a run for it's money, both were thrown out in the end). Books go on a bookshelf.. my bookshelves are pretty generious when it comes to size, but Tomato just blew it away with this massive offering. New rule: If it doesn't fit on the bookshelf, I can't own it.

I own a copy myself and it usually sits horizontal on top of other books on one shelf or on the floor next to some laserdiscs which have been moved off the book shelfs.
As for really large books, the largest I have is The Stanley Kubrick Archives. It sits on my coffee table, the ideal place for a book of it's size and weight. Here are some pictures of the book. |

I also think that Tycho's Nova is too small. I lost it under the carpet for a good solid week. Why must Tomato publications vary in sizes to the extreme?
