The Hours
I'm packing because I'm moving, and I found a copy of this on my bookshelf. I'm not even certain where it came from; I suspect it was my ex-girlfriend's. It has an inscription in it from someone to their mother.

Anyway, I ripped through it in a couple of nights, and I must say I think this is one of the best books I've ever read. There is a chapter that describes someone making a cake that is one of the most wonderful pieces of writing I've encountered. I highly, highly recommend this.

I have no idea what the movie is like, but I am certainly sceptical about how this could be adequately translated to the screen.

Re: The Hours
I was pleasantly surprised with the movie when I caught it on HBO a few years back, as heavy as the subject material was. I can't say whether it lives up to the book -- I think I'll pick it up at the library tomorrow and give it a read.
