Re: Barking: The Alternate Versions (Disc 2)
Yeah, that part. I guess it's from an old version of underworldlive.com? I'm not actually sure if it was an official download, or, like, ripped from some background music or something. I don't even know if "Kippers" is an official or fan name. Maybe someone else has more info?

You know - I just got my box set this weekend. Put on the cd, listened through Strumpet and was like... "Ooooh Kippers! Why didn't anyone tell me!?!?" Well.. come to think of it - it was a nice surprise. But back onto topic, yes - "Kippers" was a track that played in the background of one of the sections in the OLD OLD Underworldlive website. It wasn't a download in itself. If I remember correctly... it got the name b/c "kippers" was the tile for an actual area of the site. Someone here ripped the track, and just titled it that. But speaking of the other "alternate versions" ... has anyone else noticed that some songs absolutely sound like "demos" or at least "un mastered" while others sound basically finished? Like some of the percussion on "Strumpet" just sounds... off to me. While Grace (Telematic Peal) and Hamburg Hotel Essex sound finished and has anyone tried to figure out a sense of chronology of the tracks? Like "Grace (Telematic Peal Mix)" sounds like it could be after version 2 |

Re: Barking: The Alternate Versions (Disc 2)
If memory serves, it was. They played it on one of their radio shows.

Re: Barking: The Alternate Versions (Disc 2)
You're going to regret not getting the box. It's easily the most impressive physical item Underworld have released. Well worth the money.

Re: Barking: The Alternate Versions (Disc 2)
The box is presently the only way to legally obtain the alternate versions. It's really worth the money, the package is beautiful in every respect and extremely reasonably priced for how high quality it is. It will only cost more later.

and there was a third version, which sounded like the first one, that was available to stream on UWlive for a while... So - I'm assuming it went: Instrumental -> first broadcast version -> second broadcast -> Barking Alt Disc -> Barking Album version b/c the 2nd broadcast sounds like the Alt Disc one, just without the guitar, and it's a bit shorter but I also wonder when it was recorded in context with the other tracks... |
