Pretty funny when the stage folks were struggling to try to get those inflatable pillars to stand up, but aside from that, in the words of Karl Hyde, "fantastic".

And was it just me, or did Paul Oakenfold reaffirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's the king of mediocre, generic sounding "dance" music?
i haven't seen the US shows...obviously, but at Knebworth, and i believe they are doing it now elsewhere, i think those stupid inflatables are pretty distracting and annoying...

like, wtf is their purpose, except maybe to piss the stagehands off...

"look guys we want you to go on and inflate these ten giant day-go condoms in like 10 seconds before our song kicks in...."

"you what???"

i thought it was part of the Renaissance thing at Knebworth, but it turns out that its an Underworld thing... i somehow feel its a bit out of character with the rest of the tomato-esque 'technical & graphical' nature of the shows...

its all a bit too 'rave' for my liking...

I'd be interested in the audio from that show. Do you have a soundboard copy or what? And do you have it handy by chance? It was a great show to be at.

And I think I'd be done for a meet in December. If there needs to be suggestions or help with organizing let me know.

More talk about the Bowl show in this thread.

But I personally enjoyed the inflatables. They added a great lighting effect, and oddly enough I liked that they didn't stand straight up like they were supposed to. The leaning towers aspect was great.

if you're referring to the Santa Monica show - no. I've searched high and low for a copy of that gig, but i've been unsuccessful. If anyone has it, please share.

I do however, have a copy of the gig they played at the Mayan in Downtown LA for their AHDO tour...

i'll have to give it a listen. i have it backed up on a dvd somewhere w/the rest of my music collection. i back everything up. i d/l this show through the trade ftp some years back - i can't recall the quality, but i do believe it was an audience recording. still an awesome show nonetheless. i'll get back to you on it.

now playing - "Crocodile (Oliver Huntemann Remix) - uw.

Re: Underworld @ Hollywood Bowl
I zipped the files I loaded onto yahoo and put them up for you guys to download. Once again, just 3 minute snips from the show at the bowl, and they're all .avi files.

My dirty epic journey to see an UnderWORLD; live show

see you there!
that would have been nice because i wouldn't have had to drive to SF and back and then to LA and back. granted i'm still in a good spot for both shows...that were 6 hours apart.

to introduce myself (first post), i'm Rod from Bakersfield actually LOL. I've missed seeing them on so many California occations i can't even count (the times or the years). i know i wasn't quite into the electronic scene yet in '96 so i missed Organic. i tried to get a ticket for Santa Monica during Beaucoup Fish but they were sold out. i tried to get a ticket for the Wilton during A Hundred Days OFF, but they were sold out. i went to the first Coachella in '99 but i was there on the second day instead of the first when they played (Autechre more than made up for it though). i didn't go to the 3rd Coachella they played, but i did buy a ticket for their show two days earlier at the Fillmore in SF and and got a flat tire on the way there, at which point i discovered i had no spare

point is i've been trying to see this show for so long that the internet was still breast feeding the first time; and IT has eluded me to the point of making it an issue i was self concious about. Did i put on the right amount of cologne? what if i don't say the right thing when i'm buying the ticket? should i bring a gift? if i do manage to get in, what if i'm too nervous? I'll just be myself. I'll just be myself. while in the meantime finding it more than easy to see Mr. Aphex Twin twice, 808 State, Squarepusher probably about 4 times, Meat Beat Manifesto dos, Plaid more times than i need to, Autechre a number of times, Orbital 2 times before they disband. to say that the Underworld show was built up in my mind is an understatement. the Oblivion With Bells tour was going to be the ULTIMATE SHOW for me.

when i found out about the Bowl show, i stopped playing WoW in the middle of a battle to buy a ticket (not really). payed $10 extra to be in the middle G1. then the first SF show poped up online and i bought one for that too knowing i could stay at a buddy's place in Oakland. i work at night cutting video for a morning news show so my sleeping schedule is really far off and there was no telling when i'd be ready to just drop if i stayed up from 1:00 AM Friday moring to the 12:30 AM Sat. morning that the SF show did get over. when i did finally step into the Warfield theatre, i though to myself that "There is no stopping this now" and since i didn't want to wear ear plugs for anything other than Paul Oakenfold, i thought "If I'm going to burn my ears on one last show, it's going to be this one."

You could see some of the tech problems but that didn't make it any less excellent. it was a regular standing/dancing venue show like i'm used to. the gay dude that flew from Portland, OR that i was talking to kept telling me to sell my Bowl ticket and that this was the show to be at...and it was but, i certainly wasn't selling my Bowl ticket. I kept thinking how wonderful it was going to be to just sit and chill at a show after this one. anyway it rocked and i screamed a lot and blew my throat out. i wanted Dark Train to dogg, but to no avail. i felt fortunate to have seen Dirty Epic live even though that isn't really my track, i know that it is a lot of other people's track and so i was there to love it for them, and i did.

Went home, woke up Sunday, hour and a halfed it down to LA, did my normal Amoeba Music stop (HA i was at ever Amoeba Music store this last weekend) and got to the Hollywood Bowl. walked in, Oakenfold was already on. good i didn't have to sit through all of it. and they got him off rather quickly by the time i got there, as it only seemed like about 30 min. of that stuff. perhaps California has a law about how much Oaky you can take in a 48 hour period. BTW who thought it would be a good idea to put Oakenfold and Underworld on the same ticket anyway? they are worlds apart. Are people really lumping those two things in together? is it only the hardcore Underworld fans (you & i) that can tell the difference? i hope not.

anyway thing that made the Bowl show the best was the perfect atmosphere/temperature and night outside, the brillant impact of the Bowl lighting setup and dome, the massive audience, that fact that i wasn't all crushed into my spot w/ a bunch of sweaty people, and above all that the set was exacted and tight. very fluid. the Underworld guys were real happy. having viewed it from farther away this time made it really grandiose as well. all that and Juanita/Kiteless/To Dream of Love, which was my ultimate authentic Underworld moment of both shows, when you've got the Bowl sunrise-like yellow lights up full glowing and Karl in red listening to the barbed wire hanging!!!! who gets over that? not i.

on the inflatables, they weren't supposed to stand up. they were just supposed to be all over the place in different directions, then the stage hands would set them up differently for the next track. it was this way at all the shows.

anyway hello i'm new,
cheers//
Rod
