I think firstly that Real Player stole all the file associations and then you removed it so Windows Media Player took them all. Both nasty applications. It appears that you do have the mp3 though. Does it start with the ambient track or the jack kerouac?

it starts with the ambient track (i'm assuming the kerouac track is the one with the guy talking bout san fransisco) - whenever i download a track off the u/w archive, they appear as realplayer files - all my saved realplayer/u/w files now can only play in media player!! I bort this comp from pc world and it comes with these progs - why aren't we told, from the very start, that they are "nasty applications" (to quote stimpee)

why does everything have to get worse these days??

Ok, if you have the 14min ambient track then just follow the instructions in the first post exactly. You shouldnt be opening the file in Real Player or Windows Media Player anyway. What you should be doing is opening the CUE file in CueSplitter. If the uwlive recording is in the same folder, it will find it.

Heh. its not that bad. I suspect that what happened was that you had Real Player installed and it stole the file associations for all media types. Then you uninstalled that and then MS Windows Media Player took them all meaning that all media files now open in that. I also suspect that you dont have visible file extensions (go into My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/View and de-select the "Hide extensions for known file types" box). Hopefully the file you saved from Underworldlive.com will now show up as .mp3 (although the icon next to it may show Real Player or Windows Media Player and open in one of those applications).

BTW, by a "nasty application" I mean ones that do things that you don't ask it to, such as changing settings like which application is chosen to open certain file types.

Many, many thanks stimpee for your detailed replies - however, it still doesn't work

My files now have the .mp3 suffixes, and they now have a different icon (the one of the square with the top blue bar and 6 little squares, like a pc window, against a white page with the top right corner folded back.)

Shall I just wait for r&k to put the live tracks on the archive, as promised??

What program do you llike to use to listen to music? Right click on the file, click on 'open with', click 'choose program', put a check in the empty box, double click on the program you want to play your music files.
