Sure it does. It lets you know the absolute minimum amount you would have to bid in order to win the item. I've seen items where the seller has set an unrealistic reserve, and knowing that ahead of time, I can delete the item from my Watch List and wait for a more reasonable auction to come along.

Assuming the reserve is reasonable, I can determine how high above that I am willing to pay, place my final (and only) bid at the last second, and again, avoid any bidding wars with people who like to bid throughout the auction, thus, hopefully keeping the final price at a minimum above the reserve price.

Re: collectors' corner
well the reserve on this one is $100...which is quite high...

but now its been met, its a bidding war...

although i'm always wary of a bidder with '0' feedback rating... could be the buyer bumping the price up, using a friend or someone... but the current highest bidder is on 'zero' feedback... which seems a bit odd

In this case, I doubt that seller and bidder know each other or are the same person. In this auction the very same bidder's bid was cancelled because of zero feedback. So winterroth123 seems to be a bit slow-witted

Re: collectors' corner
And yet, let's look at the facts. You have a bidder (winterroth123) with a less than two month old account. He bids up to the reserve on a seller's (analog_model) item, and he has no bids on any other auctions for the past 30 days.

The only bid we can find from before that period is, again, on an item from the same seller, analog_model. And, in fact, the winterroth123 account was created on March 11, the same date as the first bids on that item.

It all looks very fishy to me...

Maybe he signed up initially because he wanted to bid for the 4 cd lot...we all have to start somewhere. He could be some Underworld maniac (thenumbertwosuperfan) only bidding for the super rarities. We'll probably never see those Push Upstairs cds again.

Anyway, I don't see anything suspicious per se...

Re: collectors' corner
thenumbertwosuperfan and he's never had an eBay account before? Right . . .

In any case, the bidding's gone kinda astronomical now, and there's still a week to go on the auction. I wonder how badly numberonesuperfan wants this?
