This was my first UW live show as well, having waitied almost 5 years for them to come back to NY! Great venue and an awesome crowd of dirts and fans. Very nice to meet you, Lounger, Stimpee, The Bang and King of Snake!

I had a grin the entire time. Everyone around was totally into it. James Holden had a blippy-good opening set.

Loved seeing the boys give each other a pre-gig hug of support.

Karl came out in his gold jacket with the "no fear" guitar and a music stand where he read some poetry in praise of NYC before launching into Luetin. The flow was great, and the new songs (crocodile, a bass and vocoder-heavy Beautiful Burnout and glam bucket) sounded fantastic. Durin Glam Bucket, Rick was really into it, swinging his arms and urging Darren and Karl to just build that crashing crecendo!

When they started TMO and the baloons came up, the crows was going absolutely mental. And then Rowla, the balloons remained, but were green/blue and drenched in fog.

Just amazing! I tried to record it, but my lil mp3 player mic was overdriven. No matter...the memories remain! Thanks a million, Underworld!

Stimpee's video captures the moments after the drop out/build up. The lights on those tubes + the sounds from Rick and Darren were flat out awesome. Put the two together and you have most of the song on video

My first show... it was a long time coming, and words can't describe how amazing it was.

Made the trip out from Vancouver with the girlfriend, and had the time of our lives...

Not much else to add that hasn't already been said... kinda wish I had been prepared to meet up with dirts... but the New York trip itself was so hectic... understandably.

Whew. Experience of a lifetime.

well, what can you say, it's been awhile, almost ...(checking

saw them here..

although, they have been to new york in 2002, and 2003 (didn't see
them then though...life kid).

it's kind of a restart for me...i haven't really been paying much
attention to their recent works (besides riverrun), or been
active posting....i'm not sure when i found out about the show,
but i bought 2 tickets way in advance, and have been eagerly
waiting for them to arrive ..

it was perfect weather, not to hot/cold outside, and it
was a nice small outdoor venue that suited them very well..

it was nice hearing some new songs in the works, and
also the old classics (although i would have preferred
a little more improvs though, oh well)....i thought having
darren price there would have eased up some of the
work for them..maybe not..

yeah, i'm 40 now..and maybe i'm a grumpy old man..
but just for the record, whats up with the standard
songs for US audience? i think its just that have such
limited time for their show, they really can't fit anything
else in there....but i really could have done without the
opening dj, that just put me too sleep..bring back
some variety in the setlist, otherwise its just underworld-101
for beginners!

also, whats up with the stage show? do we really need
all the lights / fog / lasers? the visuals were pretty cool
when they were up, but keep them going the whole time.
i don't need gimmicky stage props (as fun as the looked),
or fog clouding up the stage ....what is this a rock show?

and tell those darned kids to turn down the sound next time
(just kidding)...

anyways, i enjoyed seeing them back, and just as i am starting
yet another stage of my life, its interesting to see underworld
there doing another step for them..(underworld mk4)...

i'm looking forward to the new album and material for them..
and seeing what they have in reserve for the future..

That was a pretty solid show. You can never be disappointed with Underworld. I really liked the opening with Leutin, and Two Months Off, and a lot of the new stuff that I'm not familiar with. They played most of the standards, which they kind of have to do at this point in their career. It would have been nice to hear some rarer live tracks like Spikee or Jaunita.

The giant penis balloons were kind of annoying, except at the end when they all changed colors. But if you were standing off to the side, the stage entirely disappeared. You could tell they were struggling to set them up.

I thought it ended a little abruptly. They usually close with a more slamming track, and by eliminating Born Slippy, Dark Train, and Rez/Cowgirl, I was expecting to get Moaner. I think they just ran out of time. If you checked your watch, Jumbo ended exactly at 10:00, which I think is when the noise ordinances come in to effect.

Here's to the new album, and hopefully another tour with a Chicago date.

I think the main problem with the balloons in NYC was the fact that the stage seemed too small to really handle them. Watching the videos of the LA shows and stuff, there seemed to be more room for them to set it up.

I'm actually happy whenever they finish with Jumbo and not Moaner. Moaner is too intense and it leaves you exhausted but then youre disappointed because theres no more. Jumbo brings you down slowly with its long lush chords.

As for the stage, it WAS too small for the inflatables and i suppose i must have been lucky that it didnt obscure my view. They did look very cool.

It was a very laidback gig. The security wasnt too tight and they werent doing full cavity searches, just a quick pat down for weapons. The crowd was great and everyone I met was so happy.
