Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
It's near 5 years I've not been excited about a new Bros album, but it's starting to change. Really curious to hear what they have done this time.

no sign of vocal collaborations for a change...

To anyone who says that later Chems have been exclusively bad...haven't you heard "Burst Generator"!? Maybe my favorite track from them...

But yeah their best material usually comes without guest vocalists ("The Test" and "Life is Sweet" excepted) so this could definitely be very very good!!

Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
I dunno - they've had some fine moments in the last few years, some with vocals. "Believe" and "get Yourself High", even "Push the Button" were fine. But when you re-do it with "Do it Again", push some Sesame-Street rap crap on "The Salmon Dance" and try to out-Coyle "Golden Path" with "Battle Scars", it's clearly derivative. Time for the Brothers to do waht they did for the first 4 albums - set the step, not retread it!

And even if they don't create something brand new with "Further", their instrumental tracks have rarely disappointed with at least bringing crazy samples and excellent hooks to the table. So, if it's a driving mix of Chems by the numbers, that'd still be fine by me.

Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
I'm definitely excited about Further. Underworld and The Chemical Brothers are two bands that I feel continue to evolve and create unique music. I just listened to a brief interview with Tom and he seemed genuinely happy about the production of the album and very excited for others to hear it. I just wish I lived in Europe so I can see the entire film they've created along with the tracks in one sequential set. Oh well, at least there will be a dvd release.

Some of my favorite Chemical Bros./Underworld music is when genre-crossing is implored. Not only with the Guitar but with other instruments as well. If Further has a sound like their album Surrender (my favorite Chems album) then I will be ecstatic.

Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
okay well
that was pretty boring.

everytime i hear about a new album i keep thinking they'll do something new and different but it all just gets worse.

i dont think you can get worse than 'we are the night' unless you're actually trying to give up though...

Are you referring just to the "escape Velocity" track, or have you heard the whole album already?

Re: The Chemical Brothers - Further
Sounds like they are having a bit more creative fun by the sounds of Escape Velocity... but it sounds a bit childish at times.. especially when there are those sequences where it sounds like they are simply playing the synths with one finger - i dunno... a bit undisciplined or something... but they have gone back to the "reach for the sky, open wide, feel the bass and step inside" feel on the track with those building moments and releases... thats what they do best.

It sounds like a jam.... i like that.. its more real. None of that over produced bullshit.. push a few db boundries and try something new and fun...

Id say this music will blow your nuts off live.

It's nice to hear that Surrender is your favorite chemical brothers album. Almost everyone I talk to considers Surrender to be their most mainstream effort, but I think it's one of their best (if not, their very best) albums. I remember hearing it for the first time in the late 90's and thinking it was a major disappointment from Dig Your Own Hole. But over the years, I don't know what happened, but I suddenly "got it" and really fell in love with it. One of my favorite tracks happens to be Orange Wedge, which seems to be overlooked by too many people. And "Dream On" is one of the best closers I've ever heard.

Speaking of which, I just heard that track in a trailer for some Robert Pattinson movie...yuck. Definitely doesn't do the song justice.

I'm surprised by the hatred you guys have toward We Are the Night. I think it's a great album; definitely better than Push the Button. The opening track is a killer.
