Believe me, it's not that I feel that anyone that reads them on a regular basis is guilty by association, I just feel that too often their reviews turn into all-out rows and pissing contests. With people like Britney Spears and Linkin Park running around, people that never played in their garage for years and years and never had to play empty bars and sleep in roach motels just to try to get their music out, when a band such as Coldplay is able to pop because of the strength of their music, I feel that they deserve at least enough respect to be permitted to do what they do.

Re: Coldplay: Like or leave, and WHY
X&Y is the only Coldplay album I know (although obviously i heard their previous singles on the radio). I liked "Speed of Sound" but then I heard "White Shadow" on the radio and that really peaked my interest. So i downloaded the album and even though it seemed forgettable at first, I started to like it more with each listen.
I don't really care if it's overhyped, I bought it because i liked the songs, not because everywhere I go I see big huge posters of them hanging around

Re: Coldplay: Like or leave, and WHY
I think theyre an innoffensive but entertaining band. they say the right things and hit the right notes. theyre never gonna be alternative but they write decent songs and theres no stigma attached to them because of that. unlike other top 40 drivel like crazy frog, i have a feeling they have staying power and will just get bigger. U2 and REM managed to stay reasonably cool despite getting very big indeed and I think Coldplay will achieve the same without having to go down the road that Radiohead did.
