Re: Good Day Today
Please let your opinion be known. Do you think Good Day Today is Underworld?
If you say no, please explain how a band could have their track played twice on the biggest radio show in America, both times mistaken for another band and not have any web presence or mention anywhere online that mentions the mistake, your band name with the song etc. I would love for someone to google around for it. I've done it. I even used Bing™ when I'd exhausted all the possible combinations on google. This is Underworld.

well - I only heard it once via the live stream... if I remember correctly, the first few gun sounds - appear intentional there was even some reverb/ effects and it matched with the beat but there was this one specific gun sound that was repeated once or twice... if memory serves me, it almost sounded like a "gun reload" or like a "ca chink a chink chink" sound that was LOUDER than all the other 'gun sounds' (and ANYTHING else present in the track) and it was off beat (edit) That being said... I still believe it IS by Underworld and I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with Brian Eno but that's pretty much just a random thought with no factual basis mainly just because it sounds like "And Then So Clear" with an UW beat on top Last edited by joethelion; 05-18-2010 at 10:05 AM. |

re: good day today, the refrain is stuck in my head and won't go away. i still dislike the verses, especially the one with the gunshots. but damn if the chorus isn't catchy. |

and come on. misinformation is easy to perpetuate when the number of sources are so few and far between. bigger mistakes/hoaxes have happened. like i said, if it's on the album i'll happily stand corrected. but until i see a hard connection between band and song, i'll continue to have my doubts. |

Re: Good Day Today
One of the most respected DJ's in America debuts Underworld song on the same day Pete Tong debuts Scribble on Essential Mix. DJ says it's Underworld. Following monday, same DJ plays same track, says it's Underworld. DJ says it's from Underworld's new album.
I'm not asking you to prove a negative. I'm asking you to find the band who is responsible for Good Day Today. Their song just got 2 plays on KCRW's biggest show, that's a big deal. Surely they would have a myspace page, a twitter account, facebook page, something mentioning their album/tracklist/song title. Find the playlist where Good Day Today was played and google every track on there and tell me how many you don't find mentions of online.

Re: Good Day Today
Anyone else notice that the track totally continues on while Jason Bently talks
and it clearly ISN'T the end of the song (edit) I just re-listened to the track the "gun sound" that I was saying didn't seem to fit is at 02:27:05 in the KCRW broadcast and it's not the "gun firing" sound I'm referring to.. (edit 2) and it's WEIRD that Yannick said it isn't by Underworld and WE received no notice of this coming out but... I wouldn't be surprised if it is Underworld or at least - Brian Eno feat Karl Hyde (maybe with Rick... maybe not) and has anyone else listened to that Eno track I mentioned? Re: Good Day Today
maybe they're just testing the tracks? as well as single possibilities? they already picked a single for the UK and probably for the rest of the world, but USA's market is different and probably they picked a track that's more 'underworld' than Scribble.

Further, this sort of stuff still happens all the time. The internet is filthy with all kinds of phony "new DAFT PUNK" tracks. It's a phenomenon left over from the Napster days where every electronic song was credited to Moby or The Prodigy just because people were ignorant or malicious. My suspicion is that someone emailed this song to Jason Bentley and said it was Underworld and he played it. I used to work in the music industry, it is woefully disorganized and I have no trouble believing a scenario that simple. Why they did it is another question. Maybe just for laughs, or maybe someone passed it to them and they passed it along in good faith.

Re: Good Day Today
I've said before... Jason Bentley is a huge Underworld fan. I live in LA and listen to KCRW everyday. I've met Jason and seen him play live. He would not make this mistake twice. This song is flying under the radar.
America and Europe are two different markets. There's a huge market for hardcore dance music in England, which is why Scribble makes sense for big radio play there. There is no market or show in the US like Tong's on regular radio. Even KCRW doesn't play hard core dance music like that often (some night time shows), but certainly not Morning Becomes Eclectic. Good Day Today fits the KCRW demographic perfectly, so it makes sense. I guarantee you it's Underworld. And the gun firing is very deliberate (and works - well - for me). I love the lyrics and the general sense of the song. Lyrically it's similar to 8 Ball and Two Months Off. |
