Can you clarify this? I looked at Jungle Warfare here:

And I'm not able to figure out which sample that is from your description ("Step 162").

i will clarify when back home to check. the issue becomes the source and it's booklet, and that they have had rereleases over the years. many sample packs from the time are archived online in repacks which complicates things further, but i will do my best.

edit: just as an example, my source for this could have been based on the reason release, which needed conversion to wav from proprietary format. and some releases had more samples on one release and not on the others:

Re: underworld recreation from analysis
so my release was a repack i think from an akai release. converted to wav and categorised. i would need to obtain the regular vol. 1 disc itself to verify the specific track number and sample id.

the folder is "Zero-G - Jungle Warfare 1, 2&3\VOL 1\Straight Loops"

at the very least going through and listening to the samples in any release of those is your starting point.

Thanks, I was able to identify it as Track 20, Index 6: "Step" on the original CD. It can be heard in the YouTube video above at about 22:09. I was very curious to hear the original, raw sample.

In your opinion, do they use any of that sample in "Scribble"? It's obviously a different, simpler pattern, but did they use anything from this sample, or just create all new stuff?

it seems to be clearly inspired by the original from You Do, but the sounds don't match. and the structure is a little simpler, the high hats at the end of each loop in Scribble having pitch variations going on becoming the variation there. maybe they or the collaborator thought it sounded a little dated or less punchy or otherwise harder to work with for the sound they wanted.

this is very rough and needs more elements analysed and the 303 bass needs more programming, but i thought it would be fun to show more process... two hours work so far.

Re: underworld recreation from analysis
i'm always just making things i think would mix well together. one day i'll get to the mixing them together part (:

edit: it is absolutely my intent to work towards a proper longer form mix of things that sort of sounds like an old improvy underworld thing. if you want midis or to collab feel free to post or reach out.
