new LP of half-live electro-breaks!
Hey all,
I'm a few months away from finishing my PhD, so i've had to put aside my late-night productions as AViD (they take up way too much time). But, thesis-writing hasn't completely killed my need to create music!

So, it's something a little different. The concept: merge improvised elements with studio productions i've had lying around to make a unified, continuously mixed LP. Thus, it's "half-live"...many loops and themes were recorded on-the fly, mistakes and all.

Though this took much shorter to assemble than the 6-month average for my AViD releases, it's some of the hardest stuff i've made. "Hard" in terms of beats, progressive breaks and acidic knob twiddling as well as "hard" with respect to the difficulty of improvising and keeping it together.

The result is a strange mix of styles. Lots of analog electro/techno, many breakbeats, some experimental/ambient sounds, and like i said, the roughness and urgency of live mixing. Since all tracks are mixed together, it's like a relentless, 62 minute journey. To where? You tell me!

"Help Us Help You" by Mental Health Consumer:

(10 mp3s @160kbs, album cover/tracklist in zipped file, 71MB)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/7qmotc
(same deal, but faster DL, since uploading.com can be slow/stubborn)

If you take a listen and tell me what you think, i'd be very appreciative and interested in thoughts/criticisms! This is just for fun and diversion, anyway!

Cheers,
Holden

(bumpers!)

Has anyone managed/bothered to download? Criticism is okay, as there are plenty of rough edges in the live mix. Although on another forum, i was pleased that someone compared bits to Daft Punk's "Homework"...feel free to disagree and tell me this is the worst hour of music ever made, but please take a listen! i'll appreciate it!

It took me a while but I downloaded the entire LP, and at the moment I am on track two... The first track reminded me a lot of Severed Heads, "Dead Eyes Opened". I like the voice over. I have to admit the timing of some of the percussion being off bothers me slightly, but that may be part of it's charm.

More thoughts to come
