Introduce Yourselves
Well, this thread seems to have disappeared in the Great Server Migration of 2008 so I thought I would start another one.
My name is Janie, I am a dinosaur (according to certain Dutch members of Dirty ) and I have been spending far too much time hanging round here since about Christmas 2003. The first Underworld choon I heard was Cowgirl, which was on a mix-tape my sister made for me. I first saw Underworld in 95 or 96 - can't remember the year but it was at a festival in Brighton, then life seemed to get in the way of enjoying myself for a few years, and I didn't see them again until nearly 10 years later in Amsterdam. I have tried to get to as many gigs as possible since then, before the arthritis sets in. My favourite track is Biro the Leggy, renamed as Beautiful Burnout for Oblivion with Bells, closely followed by Pearls Girl. My best Underworld Live Moment was at Cocoon in 2006, when I had climbed up onto the step in front of the stage just at the point when the guys struck up PG - and I was in heaven. My best UW Private Moment was meeting Karl and Pricey in the lobby of a hotel in Tilburg in November 05 and bending his ear for about 10 minutes or so. He is such a patient man, cos I can talk for England I love this place. And I love the people that post here.

Re: Introduce Yourselves
Hey!
I'm called Holden and have been enjoying these boards and this band since 2002. A bit late discovering UW, as i only got turned onto electronic music in '96 or so, and had only heard Pearls Girl and Born Slippy on compilation cds. But i can clearly remember buying Underworld cds on a snowy New York day on a friend's recommendation, and by nightfall being in awe. By that time, i'd missed the gig at th Hammerstein and it wasn't until last september that i finally saw the boys live in Central Park. If i was forced to pick a favorite track, it's probably Cups. Lotta great folks around these boards with interesting viewpoints and endless knowledge of music, culture, film, etc! Glad to meet you!

1st track was Dark & Long on a tape of Dubno that a mate did for me, walking to work through empty streets at 5 am in the early summer of '94 ... perfect way to start your day. I started collecting shortly afterwards. I haven't got a favourite track. |

Re: Introduce Yourselves
hello my name is chris and im a recovering flame war addict.
Underworl is one of the best music groups. I first became familiar with them while watching trainspotting. From then on I was a full on fan. I've only had the opportunity to see them once but it was one of the best shows ive ever seen. Favorite new group is MGMT. Nice to be back here. I promise I will try to be kind.

Re: Introduce Yourselves
I'm Jason from NJ.
Graphic Designer/Usabilty Analyst I'm not quite a dinosaur but I'm not a wee one either. I've celebrated at least 10 birthdays since joining dirty back in 1996/7? (even before it was dirty.) I've been lucky enough to meet around 15 of yas. - all great people and great times. My first time hearing Underworld was tasting Born Slippy on the Trainspotting soundtrack followed very closely by Cowgirl on MTV Amp. They were referred to me as, "the future of music." I wasn't sure I bought that description but I did fall in love with their style/talent almost instantly. I tracked down the band and purchased STiTI right away. Every since then I've been on top of their releases past and present. Saw the gang live for the first time in 1997 at the Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC. Ive since seen them 9 more times, most recently in Atlanta; I tried to see them in London in 2007 but due to illness, the show was cancelled. One January, Karl wished me happy birthday in an uwlive pic. Big smile. Last edited by potatobroth; 04-04-2008 at 01:52 PM. |
