Book of Jam 6: Doorbells of Trondheim
Ding dong.
Who's there? Book of Jam 6 in the Member's section. The photos are very nice. Anyone know anything about Marianne Saether? These little side jaunts the past couple months are fun, but I wonder when we're going to get to some of the Books that have been previewed, like the Book of White, Book of Paint, Book of Nature, Book of Qi, etc.? Not complaining though. It is nice that John has been able to keep it on a pretty regular schedule. I wish they wouldn't compress the photos so much. Makes it hard to print them out nicely. |

Re: Book of Jam 6: Doorbells of Trondheim
Taking a look at these doorbells now.
Hmm. While the photos themselves appear pretty clear and it's an interesting concept, i'm still skeptical. The following is nothing against Marianne Saether, Tomato, etc., just a personal observation... It's a graphic design principle that, compiling a number of any random object looks good in bulk, as per the last BoJ, the jets photos on UWLive recently, Warhol's soupcans, etc. The compiling takes a bit of work, the curating of the best pictures, sure. But is it art? During grad school, i'd regularly walk through the college town past fraternity houses and bars on the way to the office on a saturday or sunday morning (lame, i know, but that's the "life" of a PhD candidate...always working or at least feeling guilty about not working), and i'd pass plenty a puddle of vomitus from the night before, usually with a plastic cup or bottle nearby. i often wondered, "What if i take photos of all of this purge, enlarge them, then exhibit them en masse?" Not a very tasteful idea, for sure, but i sometimes feel that, taken collectively, even a bunch of barf looks good when you've got a couple dozen examples of it. Patterns emerge, differences are seen. Maybe that's the point, the heightening importance of the commonplace?
