This movie was awesome. Highly, highly recommended.

Didn't really care for it, myself. Tried to be too many things simultaneously, IMO.

You're referring to the Beat Takeshi 2004 movie? There are apparently a few older Zatoichi films from the heyday of samurai cinema, though I haven't seen those.

It's a good movie indeed. The comedy moments were strange. The dancing peasants, the neighbours simple son who thinks he's a samurai and runs around naked, the big final dance... pretty nuts. Good though.

I'd recommend The Twilight Samurai (http://imdb.com/title/tt0351817/) if you liked this. A more straight drama based movie, but very good. Better than Zatoichi IMO.

If we're referring to the Beat Takeshi film from last year, it was great.
