That shit was LOUD. And a lot noisier than expected. This live version isn’t just lean and clean anymore. Karl said they were in rare form tonight too. Huge show.
Gene Pool Juanita TMO Push Upstairs Mmm Skyscraper Denver Luna Jumbo Dark Train King of Snake Rez/Cowgirl And the Colour Red Born Slippy They had tour shirts. Functional, good. Finally got myself a born slippy one with the new logo on the back. Sis got a black “world tour 2023” one. There’s a white and cyan one too with the current logo. Re: 2023-04-21 The Warfield, San Francisco
Still buzzing off of that show! I?m not optimistic for a recording, but I?ve never seen an SF show so packed, with a huge age range too. I expected a bunch of burnt out bearded guys like me, and there was certainly that, but the demographics were everywhere.
It was my first proper gig since the pandemic, so I though I?d hang around the middle back of the ground floor, but that started to fill up. So I moved further back, and that started to fill up. I didn?t like it, and I wanted to be able to dance, even if I wasn?t sure I?d be convinced into it. ?Fuck it, I?m going to the balcony? Expecting the first few rows to be full before it became popcorn, I was greeted with the balcony at 75% capacity. We went to the BACK, and the sound was never better. I was eventually convinced into some actual dancing somewhere in the middle of TMO (the ONE track I said ?ehhh i hope not? that ended up getting me). I?m not sure if, seeing a livestream, it would look like any other show, but damn being there was pretty special. |

Re: 2023-04-21 The Warfield, San Francisco
Sadly I've only seen Underworld 3 times (San Diego 2010 when Karl was sick), 2016 at the Fox Theater in Oakland, and now this show at the Warfield. I didn't know what to expect in terms of the setlist, and it turned out to be 9/16ths of 1992-2002, plus 3 new tracks (Gene Pool being the best of the 3 for me). I wasn't disappointed. I really wanted to hear Dirty Epic or Dirty Club again, but I can't complain.
The crowd was really into it, which was great to see.. except a woman with her boyfriend/husband who sat down the whole time, and she only got up and excited when Born Slippy started. Karl was bouncing around, having a great time. |
