"no attacks were averted by information obtained using harsh interrogation methods" sort of contradicts everything the right used to put up when they were supporting torture, sorry, 'harsh interrogation'...

Re: torture admission?
No, Mr. King, The American People want to know how our safety has been compromised due to the handling of this ill advised and misguided interrogation program. As well as if there is any way to move forward from it. Surely there must be some record of past interrogation programs which detail the pros/cons of what may be in our future...

That's weird, because surprisingly, Cheney seems to have a different take on the subject. He says that harsh interrogation methods were responsible for averting "ALL" potential attacks. He just released a statement saying:

“The documents released Monday clearly demonstrate that the individuals subjected to Enhanced Interrogation Techniques provided the bulk of intelligence we gained about Al Qaeda. This intelligence saved lives and prevented terrorist attacks. These detainees also, according to the documents, played a role in nearly every capture of Al Qaeda members and associates since 2002.

"The activities of the CIA in carrying out the policies of the Bush administration were directly responsible for defeating all efforts by Al Qaeda to launch further mass casualty attacks against the United States. ... President Obama’s decision to allow the Justice Department to investigate and possibly prosecute CIA personnel, and his decision to remove authority for interrogation from the CIA to the White House, serves as a reminder, if any were needed, of why so many Americans have doubts about this administration’s ability to be responsible for our nation’s security.”

I must admit, I never realized the full, apparent depth of Cheney's control over the Bush administration that's being steadily revealed now that we're post-Bush. I think my approach to that administration would have been pretty different had I known.

Re: torture admission?
I always found this whole "looking forward, not back" excuse for blocking investigation highly specious.

Politics. The same enemy of truth that, according to Tom Ridge, may have played a role in the question of whether to raise the terror threat levels during the Bush years.

What with Lithuania announcing today that it's launching an inquiry into allegations that it hosted a secret CIA prison, maybe it's time the rest of the world* set up boycottamerica.com

(*or maybe just Scotland )
