Jumbo bass sound
Hi,
In my modest opinion, Jumbo is probably the best Underworld song. An I'm very intrigued about the sound design in this song. How they reach this bass sound ?? Do you know what synth they use ?? And how they process the sound ?? It is unique. Is there any chance to get a similar sound in Logic ?? Also interesting for me is the initial background synth pattern... Regards, Joan |

Re: Jumbo bass sound
i have very fond memories of Jumbo.
Remember listening to "Beaucoup Fish" in a friend's dormroom; that bassline was just wrecking the little computer speakers, but oh so catchy. I bought the album the very next day. Same in my car - UW often got me through 6-hr latenight drives home. Again, the bass on this, and similar moogish lines in King of Snake, DA3D and Momove would rattle the rearview mirror in the car. Great! Of course, as an encore or semi-encore song, it's just lovely.

Re: Jumbo bass sound
Beacup Fish is filled with weird basslines and bass sounds and Jumbo in my opinion has a quite standard bass sound. That "standard", take it with a grain of salt because the bass is wicked, but compare it to KOS and Moaner and you know what I mean. Moaner has two samples that can pass for low frequency sounds, but they are quite strangely panned like 20-30% to the side. You gotta love UW for the bravery in picking the samples and the overall production in BF. As far as the bass in Jumbo, i think it's two synth-bass samples layered together.
