Gabriel Yared and Welsh National Orchestra in Cardiff 28/10
http://www.wmc.org.uk/index.cfm?UUID...159079E8093735
"Special Guest Performance by Gabriel Yared in Tribute to Anthony Minghella Wales Millenium Centre, Cardiff, 28 November, 7pm BBC National Orchestra of Wales brings classic scenes from the Big Screen to life through a performance of selected works from Beethoven, Wagner and Mozart. What was Francis Ford Coppola’s motivation for using Wagners Ride of the Valkyries in Apocalypse Now? Or what was it about Beethoven’s Symphony number 9 that made Stanley Kubrick use it in Clockwork Orange? The performance will also feature an exclusive special guest performance by legendary composer Gabriel Yared (in tribute to his dear friend the recently deceased Anthony Minghella). With a reputation for working with directors such as Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Jacques Annaud and Robert Altman, Yared’s longstanding collaboration with British director Anthony Minghella also earned him many of his critical accolades, including an Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy for his soundtrack for The English Patient. His soundtrack for the films The Talented Mr Ripley and Cold Mountain also secured Oscar nominations, with Cold Mountain winning Best Original Soundtrack at the 2004 World Soundtrack Awards. In his only UK performance this year, Gabriel will perform music from Betty Blue, Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr Ripley and The English Patient amongst others. This promises to be a memorable event, not to be missed." Anyone else going to this? I'm hoping he'll sneak in some B&E in the Minghella tribute... I really can't wait! |
