anyone can have a server. i meant the DNS servers that map the domain names "http://www.whatever.whatever" to the IP address that the computers actually use. so if you took out those servers, people would have to type in the literal IP addresses (128.192.5.6 as an example) to get to sites. you can run dns servers on personal networks, but i had thought i remembered there were 6 main sites running it for the web. and as another side question, i remember them worrying about running out of IP addresses on the internet a while ago and were considering trying to migrate it to a hex system. anyone in computers or networking know if thats still happening? i use to work as a network engineer but ended up wanting to kill myself.
