Re: Dirty Movie Club: Chungking Express
I've been going back and forth on whether or not to watch this again. I saw it about a year ago and, since it's now been about a week of me putting it off, I'm deciding to just remember it.

This is a great example of a movie that the intellectual part of my brain knows is really great but just doesn't do anything for me. I completely attribute it to my particular tastes and not the film however. I remember the photography being really daring and visually exciting, WKW's treatment of character and romance are both realistic and poetic, and his film easily achieves what I think he set out to do. It's just not for me. Maybe I'm not old or mature enough or just in the wrong place to appreciate his work, but as good as part of me knows his work is, I still can't bring myself to get excited by it. I've actually been putting off 2046 for some time (sorry, Grady) because I know I'm not going to like it as much as I should, and that frustrated me. His work is just too slow and langurous for me, too steeped in subtlies and tone. I actually hate saying that because usually those are things I love... but what can I do. I blame it on too much Schwarzaneggar as a child.

I hoped you liked it though, Dave.
