Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
Courtesy lloyd's blog:
Releasing Aug. 5 on iTunes, and Aug. 12 physical CD. No tracklist yet. http://www.amazon.com/Songs-Matthews.../dp/B001C32XQI "The Art of Peace Foundation announced today that more than a dozen of the world's top contemporary musical artists, including Sting, Dave Matthews, Alanis Morissette, John Mayer, Suzanne Vega, Rush, Imogen Heap, Garbage, Damien Rice, Moby, Underworld, Duncan Sheik and many more have been brought together to create an album of 20 songs entitled, 'Songs for Tibet - The Art of Peace'. The project is the artists' expression of peace and support for Tibet and the Dalai Lama, and will be launched before the Olympics opens in Beijing." "As a show of support for Tibet and the Dalai Lama, some of the world's most creative artists have recorded and donated a song for the Art of Peace Foundation. These acoustic songs - some original for the project and some acoustic recordings of previously released songs - express our common vulnerabilities and experiences in pursing happiness, peace and freedom. This historic and monumental project is a proactive celebration of our shared humanity and common search for happiness." Acoustic Born Slippy, anyone? |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
Oooh fantastic :D
*chants a mantra to boost sales* |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
I wonder what song will go on? If its a fresh slab of UW meat, then it'll boost sales from this fanbase end.
|
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
hrm. i figure we woulda heard mention of something on here had it been new. i'm going with a prev. released track.
|
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
version of Stagger with fuckface from U2 on drums + rick on piano would be great
|
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
oeps, missed that. was to busy trying to find a tracklisting I guess, which I didn't find.
Acoustic Kittens would be fun. PG.. |

this project is clearly outside of the musicians obligations as performers and songwriters and their participation in this project is irresponsible and detrimental to the interests of china. it is unfortunate that they choose to voice propoganda concerning that which is none of their business and are ignorant of. china is merely trying to protect what's theirs. ..... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
I was mentally musing through the UW canon, and realized that Phonestrap 1 would probably fit the bill.
Or, maybe Chant, from the 2005/2006 webcasts, would be more appropriate? |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
i think Trim would be fantastic in an acoustic setting

Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
Anyhoo...
Am I right in thinking that it is someone in UW's management (Mike G maybe?) who has a strong connection with Buddhism, cos I asked the question during one of the radio shows and I seem to remember Karl saying it was someone in The Management. There used to be a link to a Tibetan Buddhist website on the old UW page. |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
'fuckface for tibet'
has a cracking ring to it! :D |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
Not sure about anyone's specific connection to Buddhism, but the band has supported and promoted the Meridian Trust for a long time. There's a link to it on their website:
http://www.underworldlive.com/links As mentioned in the press releases for this Songs for Tibet album, "The Art of Peace Foundation also works with their UK partner, Meridian Trust, to preserve Tibetan cultural traditions," so perhaps that's how Underworld came to be involved in this project. |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
Someone found this:
http://artofpeacefoundation.org/Jukebox/ Looks like it's going to be "To Heal" with Rick's dad! Good choice! |

Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
anyone know which day the cd release event is? I'm guessing the 7th or 11th as thats when Karl and/or Rick are going to be there (at some time).
|
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
I've been looking for that information, but haven't seen anything. It might be a private event though.
|
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
yeah, i guess its private, I heard rumor of a private event on the 7th, but of course its not on the site and its prob after regular hours at the gallery.
|
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
Talked to the gallery, and the release party is on Thursday, but it is a private function, invitation-only. That's when Karl and/or Rick will be there, and I assume it will be after the gallery closes.
Edit: Found this picture of the invitation. Reception from 5-10 PM. RSVP Invitation only though. Interesting that it says it's a "CD/DVD" release. http://img.ymlp10.com/magnumpr_UnderworldEmail_1.jpg |

Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
For those that like to buy from Amazon, the link is here. Pricing isn't known yet, but usually cheaper than iTunes.

Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
Just bought this song. It is absolutely gorgeous. Its rocketing up my favourtie UW song list.
I wonder if this version and the OWB cut is why The Sunshine soundtrack has issues. |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
what a strange tune.
|
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
could do without the childspeak in the middle, really. would rather just enjoy the music.
|
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
I like the child speak as when baby raises its voice at the end it reminds me of Hiro Nakamura when he screams out Yatta! lol (in Heroes)
Just a shame its MP4 as my Media player wont convert the track. |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
Think that child is saying "dog, pig, cat" or something along those lines.
|
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
got the cd from the release party today..
it's pretty cool, and rick and karl enjoyed redoing the track.. later -1 |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
how did you get into the release party? im a bit jealous, i swung by there at 5:40 or so but of course it was private.

for being so private......(no contact info , no description) basically, i'm invisible, and always have been....[i guess i like it that way]... if you had shown up earlier in the day, you would have met karl, their manager etc...(or maybe you did)...and they would have hooked you up... seriously, i don't want to make anyone feel bad, but the tomato people were amazing, PR-wise, fan-wise, etc.....they hooked up everyone with all you could want, without even asking....i just mentioned i was a dirtyboard member, and longtime fan, and that was all it took..... 5 ***** star treatment..... i'm pretty sure they could have set you up .. darn it, i had extra passes, etc.. and would have liked to have someone to talk too....i don't mingle much, and since this was also a release party for the 'peace for tibet' , most people there didn't know underworld, the band members, or what any of the artwork was about.....i don't want to be condescending, or critique them too much (the other people), but seriously this was a great way to get access to band, etc...it was a very personal, and family oriented gathering....i'll post more, but i don't really want to cross the line of personal privacy, and information from the band and other members.... [and once again, *NO* i'm not a select member of that group, just a fan, that happened to be at the right/time place].... later -1 |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
no worries -1, share what you will, i'll be jealous enough without more details.
I was at work all day, so as soon as I left at five, I hurried via foot and subway to the gallery and they were saying the gallery turned private at 5 instead of 6. i was hoping for a quick browse through and maybe to meet anyone in the band or tomato before the art of peace thing went on. i didnt want to press it, but ah well.. well, i am going to apw, and might swing by the gallery again on the 11th if karl or anyone is there. but will see the gallery for sure sometime otherwise. leaving work soon so wont be online. enjoy the weekend. |
Re: Underworld on "Songs for Tibet"
karl is supposed to be there on the 11th, so try going then,
depending on how busy they are....check it out anyways.. good luck.. later -1 |
