i didnt notice if anyone posted about it already, but the amsterdam concert with that amazing opening track was posted today on underworldlive... however it was mislabeled as dark and long. anyone know a proper title for it?

Oooh! Thanks for the heads up...i'd checked UWLive earlier and this gig wasn't yet up! Happy Monday!

Um, well, that track doesn't have an official name yet, but based on the lyric and on tracklists of the Cocoon Club show (10/12/06), folks around here have been calling it "All These Things (in me)". Adding to the confusion is that the file is labeled "Darc".

Interesting, too, that the beginning spoken words "down by the river, two dogs attack each other", and a few others were sung by Karl over a still unnamed track debuted on the lemonworld broadcast from last May (the extra track after the simulcast show was finished, introduced as "something Ricky's been working on...") But that track sounded different, with washes of keyboard and a fairly skippy beat, if i recall.

nope... different track. this one is has this sort of walking bassline and some jamming on the guitar. at the end has a great little vocal bit. something along the lines of "like a spider on my skin.. like the way you slip away from me."

and im loving that electric piano that has been popping up in gigs lately. at the end of juanita in this show when they mix it with that gregorian chant of karls it sounds amazing.

Re: underworldlive amsterdam show

:o i'm embarrassed! :o You are absolutely right, it's not "All These Things".

So, it's labeled "Darc". Is that an official name or a shortening of the (incorrect) Dark and Long title given on the archive?

Love the opening track - great to have a soundboard recording of this gig

Let's face it, how many other bands continually give us totally free live albums??! And the track titles are almost insignificant as each recording is totally different - the Amsterdam "5ft Five" is a mere shadow of the Barcelona version (but no less for that) - it is a totally different track. Underworld have captured life i.e. we catch the same bus each day into work, yet each journey is subtly different - that regular person isn't on, who is that?, the journey was surprisingly traffic-free, who is holding up the bus demanding the season ticket!!

I love this band more than life itself (and I wish that they could play on my bus journey)

but why 128kbps??

Re: underworldlive amsterdam show

Dark and Long isn't/wasn't the first of HMH 2005

I thought it was that new guitar track that I post about all the time...
"Is it time for us to meet" - is one of the lyrics

I am upset if they cut this track out... which I believe they did :(

Re: underworldlive amsterdam show

uh no they didn't. It's just mislabeled.

Wow! This is really an unexpected gift as both the other concerts were released over a period of some months... Kind of spoiling the excitement in waiting for another track to pop up. :D
btw, who/what band was the reason that the vibe police almost busted them?

BeautifulBurnout 01-09-2007 06:25 AM

Re: underworldlive amsterdam show

The "vibe police" comment was, I believe, referring the fact that they were told they couldn't play any longer after the Jumbo encore, even though we were all gagging for Moaner.

what do you want for free? anyway, theyve always been 128kbps. Only now they are 48kHz which is how they come out of Rick's Macintosh.

that i don't know. but i can confirm that it cuts off in the middle.

Also, Dub Shepherd is missing from between Pearl's Girl and NUXX :(

It was 11pm and they weren't allowed to play any more. Those are the Heineken Music Hall rules.

Re: underworldlive amsterdam show

wow wow! this song is great... i haven't heard a new uw song since you do scribble and always loved a film... (plus the river runs). this is right up there with YDS and ALAF... teh singing is quite good!

also: 128 kpbs is totally acceptable for this... it "could" just use some boosting to beef it up a bit...

thanks so much!

ive had the first three tracks on repeat pretty much all morning (with meeting interuptions) and loving it.

Darc is amazing. reminds me of both Dubno and STITI style tracks but with that mature, laid back AHDO feel. keep it coming.

No, in my opinion the mastering is really, really excellent! No clipping/distortion and full dynamic range... feel the punch of the drums when you increase the volume... it's great!

I hope UW will master their upcoming releases on CD similarly. Both BF and AHDO and their singles already where very loud but 1992-2002 and Born Slippy 2003 were even worse in this aspect...

Here is a post from me that shows what i mean...
http://www.dirty.org/forums/showpost...4&postcount=44

A video on YouTube about the loudness war:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3Gmex_4hreQ

I find it really depressing when great music is being affected (or sometimes completely destroyed!) by any kind of overly agressive mastering.

I'm happy that this isn't the case here (listening to You Do Scribble over and over again... :)).

Re: underworldlive amsterdam show

thanks boys :)
Yeah, the vibe police really did end it too soon. This concert was part of the dance festival 5 Days Off. Loads of people just there because it was underworld, not fans per se. By that and the way they build up the concert/tracklisting, the crowd wasn't really into it until way in the second half. It really felt like it needed at least one more song, the place rocked by then and wanted a climax. Pity there wasn't time for more.
They made up for it with 2 3 hour gigs in Tilburg tho :D

Re: underworldlive amsterdam show

well - it seems that the title for "darc" has been corrected

but strangely - 'Push Upstairs' is still cut short :(

TheBang 01-09-2007 11:50 PM

Re: underworldlive amsterdam show

Well, by my reckoning, here's a little bit more complete tracklisting for this release:

1. Darc
2. 5 Foot 5
3. Juanita/HMH Untitled-2
4. Pearl's Girl/Yard Beat
5. Dub Shepherd/Born Slippy .NUXX 2003
6. Lenny Penne
7. Small Conker and a Twix/You Do Scribble
8. Back in the Fears/D's Ablt
9. King of Snake
10. Push Upstairs
11. Cowgirl/Rez
12. Jumbo

We still don't have a proper name for "HMH Untitled-2," which was also played after Back in the Fears at Electraglide Tokyo, after NUXX at Osaka, and after Shake That Higher at Zurich. Maybe it'll just have to go down as "2005 Improv."

Agreed, this is mastered better than any of the other concerts we've gotten so far. This show is a fantastic treat for us. Thanks! :)

I'm quoting myself here:eek: when I first heard the amsterdam "five ft five" I thought, "that is a major re-working of the track!" - which it would be, cos I was thinking of "shake that higher" - oops! (you have to admit, the titles sound the same-(ish)

Still enjoying this show!
At the risk of delving too deeply, did anyone else notice how at the start of "Juanita", Karl is singing without vocoding? Sounds different/neat! In fact, the vocoded effect is kept minimal thoughout, much less so than most live versions.
