Lemonworld 2006-05-13 how to split it

Ok boys and girls, here is how to split the recent 3hr Lemonworld broadcast. If you follow these detailed instructions to the letter you'll have the mp3's in no time at all:
  1. Get the official download from Underworldlive
  2. Install CueSplitter 0.6beta8 or better from somewhere. Here's a link to the download. Its freeware.
  3. Get the CUE file. This was painstakingly made by me after repeated listening, sometimes requiring listening to the original tracks. After that I could mark each track and correctly label it too. The official tracklisting is way out on most of the titles.
  4. Open CueSplitter and open the cue file. This will automatically open the mp3 if its in the same folder. Make sure the cue and mp3 are in the same folder!
  5. Into the Comment: field copy this important message: www.underworldlive.com / rtsr.rowla.com NOT FOR SALE
  6. Into the Year: field, simply type 2006.
  7. For the File Mask click the +(Add) and type in a mask name of anything you like, and a mask of %n %a - %t. This will leave a track with, for example 01 Underworld - Born Slippy. Click Accept and make sure that this mask is selected in the main window.
  8. Press F6 to bring up the Config window and in the CUE file mask and m3u file mask boxes, just type %T (capital T), then click Accept.
  9. From the Genre: list, select Electronic (easiest way is to click on the list and press E, then select it)
(If you want to really know how to use CueSplitter, then there is an up-to-date tutorial on all the features.)

You are now ready to split the mp3. Click the Split! button and in a few seconds it will be done. This will create 37 mp3's that are tagged with Name, Title, Track Number, Genre and Comment, and are named in a numbered format with Artist and Title. It will also create a labelled WinAmp .m3u playlist and a new .cue file also.

Macintosh users: There is a freeware tool also called cue-splitter for MacOS X that will take the above mp3 and cue files, allow you to similarly split and tag the mp3 with Name, Title, Track Number and Genre, and name the files in a numbered format with Artist and Title.

EDIT: Some Mac users are finding that cue-splitter v2.6 and v2.5.2 crash when you click "split". The solution is to use v2.2.2 but there is a check inside it which means it will only run on MacOS 10.3. If youre using MacOS 10.3 this isnt a problem, but if you're using 10.4 the solution is below. I know this easy fix works because I made it myself!

1. get the cue-splitter v2.2.2
2. get HexEditor 2.0 from macupdate.com or versiontracker.com
3. load in the cue-splitter to HexEditor.
4. find Resources/MacOS and go to offset 00009E10
5. look for 10.3, change to 10.4.
6. save and run :)

The mp3 must be called 060513_96k.mp3 (that's what its called at underworldlive.com), and in the same folder as the cue file.

I haven't tested this so I don't know but it does say that the latest version has only been tested on Tiger, and not Panther. Try v2.5.2 or v2.2.2 if the latest one doesnt work for you. I'll try and test it today on my G4 and see what's up.

EDIT: Ok, i've done some detective work on the Mac and you're right. It crashes both v2.6 and v2.5.2 when I click "Split!" (I'm using MacOS 10.4.6). So I downloaded v2.2.2 but that came up with a message saying its for 10.3 only. So I did what most people would do, and got out the Hex Editor :p and changed the 10.3 string to 10.4 and ya know what? It loaded, AND it split the files without error. Gotta go now, but I'll be back later and post more instructions, or this hacked version of v2.2.2 for people to use.

I know what you're talking about, listening to Underworld music hours upon hours... *sighs*

Hehe, just kidding. Thanks for the comprehensive manual!

Re: Lemonworld 2006-05-13 how to split it

Here's the easiest way I've found with Mac.

1. Download MP3 Trimmer (fully-functional shareware)
2. Open MP3 Trimmer.
3. Drag and drop the MP3 file onto the window. Wait a couple minutes while it processes.
4. Drag and drop the CUE file onto the window.
5. A new Auto-Trim window should open. Click the "Auto-Trim Now!" button, and you're done!

Only bad thing is it doesn't put the track numbers in the name or tags. If you want track numbers, you might want to edit the ID3 tag for each track before pressing the "Auto-Trim Now" button.

wish it worked for me. it splits the files but some of the mp3s that are produced are competely blank. maybe i didn't do it right. i'll try it again.
edit: tried it again- same thing, don't know why.

someone make a cue file that works in foobar, a lot better in my opinion, keeps the one file but lets you skip to diff tracks by predefined times.
any takers ;o ?

Your set up was perfect, thank you. I downloaded the program, the cue, put them into the same folder, loaded the cue, and clicked split. Didn't need to do anything else.

Thanks for taking the time. Much appreciated.

I tried to make foobar do what I wanted but this seemed to be the best solution for most people, so its easier to just quickly download CueSplitter and follow the instructions.

Re: Lemonworld 2006-05-13 how to split it

Thanks a lot for the cue and the info, Stimpee! Great work!

b.t.w. to the ones who have never heard of foobar, looking for less trouble playing the tracks individually: the player foobar is capable of opening the CUE file directly, as if it were a playlist.
All that is required are the files Underworld_Lemonworld_2006-05-13_RTSR.cue and 060513_96k.mp3 residing in the same directory. Good luck!

Ok. my G4 uses 10.4.6, got cue-splitter, v2.6 & v2.5.2 crashed (i like to try ;)), got cue-splitter 2.2.2, got HexEditor, never found this offset 00009E10 BUT i changed every "10.3" to "10.4" (3 times) AND it worked like magic...

Thank you so much Stimpee... (and how can you know things like that?!)

ps : if I could do that, even a donkey or a wheelbarrow can do it... :) <--- m.g. happy!

Re: Lemonworld 2006-05-13 how to split it

On Windows, in Winamp, using the Cue Player plugin, there's no need to split the mp3. Place the .cue file next to the .mp3, load the .cue file into Winamp's playlist, and Cue Player will split it into virtual tracks in Winamp's playlist. There's no gap/closed gap on continued playback between the tracks at all, but it's nice to be able to know what is playing, and of course, you can now easily jump to another part of the file.

Did the HexEdit mod on CueSplitter 2.2.2
CueSplitter only made 33 files for me.
Over and over again I tried it - 33 files only.

The download from www.underworldlive.com doesn't have Something Atmospheric on it, so the cue file doesn't work. Is there an easy way to just delete the first track off the cue file?

Really? The DL and cue Stimpee provided worked perfect for me!
If you save the cue as a .txt file, you can go in and edit/renumber as needed, i think.

I concur - cue file is for an mp3 that is over 3 hours long,
the one I downloaded today (5-22) is 2:58.

Begins with Jack Kerouac - there's no 14 min track before that.

Maybe that's why CueSplitter didn't work properly for me?

Only explanation I can think of is that a longer file was available for a few days, and now there's a shortened version on uwlive.

The cue file doesn't download correctly. When I click the link, it just shows me the text of the cue file. When I option click, it downloads as <filename>.cue.text

This sounds likely since the version I dl'd included that atmospheric track. It worked perfectly with Steve's cue sheet using mp3DirectCut. I wonder why they decided to exclude it after the fact?

At least the last track is not cut off.
For the atmospheric track, i'm sure it was there because people could join 15 minutes after the start and not miss anything of the real show. Like they did with the last broadcast where they played Kraftwerk. (first time i heard Kraftwerk in English.:))

Thanks to aNt for the replacing the file (I assume it was he). The full 9mins of Fovea Hex is just wonderful. I love this stuff. However, my CUE file is a bit screwed now, yes. Maybe i'll produce another one.
