Except this: https://gashouder.nl/events/underwor...eft%20gebracht. It says that the 4 Amsterdam shows come before a new UW album.

At this point I barely think that we will get a new album this spring.

I get where you're coming from, and it can often be difficult to be patient. Equally it is important to appreciate these things take time, and part of the joy is in the anticipation.

Re: Denver Luna single release - October 18, 2023

I remember Karl saying they were gonna keep writing music during the 2023 US shows. Part of me wonders if they're writing this album while on tour, using the shows to inspire them.

Re: Denver Luna single release - October 18, 2023

i can wait.... Denver Luna more than makes up for the time gap.

Re: Denver Luna single release - October 18, 2023

well, we know they debuted 4/5 nw tracks at the albert hall show. they've since debuted another live track at a US show.
I mean hell, I'm all for even more new tracks on top of this! The albert hall tracks all sounded great.
If they're continuing writing, it may mean that there is more than a single LP available, be that further drops, EPs, or the start f a further drift style project.

I hate the fact they only play Osaka summer sonic. So hard to get to and I don’t like festivals

I would love to see them finally release a summer album. Looking at their albums, they usually release albums in January-March and September-November, with March and October popping up the most. They have never released a summer album before. Though the singles we have gotten so far do feel like summer club bangers. March feels a little too soon and October feels so far away. Would like to see Underworld surprise us with a spring/summer release.

Re: New album speculation 2024

If they announce the album march 8 with new single, then it should be a late may, early june album.

Re: New album speculation 2024

It's so hard to predict these days, with some albums coming out after many months of promo and others appearing out of the blue. My guess would be late spring as well, though. Sounds odd, but one thing I'm actually really looking forward to is the promo around it, discussing the process behind going back to a traditional album campaign after bigging up how Drift Series 1 was good because it freed them from that structure. Curious to see if it'll get mentioned much.

It would be surreal if they just released something as merch on the new shows.

I don't know about you guys but as far as more potential new tunes are concerned I'll be hawk-eyed on Setlist fm come Thursday morning. still crossing my fingers for a re-emergence of 'Strawberry Hotel', travesty it was only played twice

Re: New album speculation 2024

So, what's our count up to now for new songs, 5-7 depending on the Kettama ones?

1. And the Colour Red
2. Denver Luna
3. Gene Pool
4. Strawberry Hotel
5. Techno Shinkansen

6. G-Town Euphoria
7. Fen Violet

That's most of the way on some Underworld albums or half-way on others - hard to tell. In the era of Drift, could just be an EP.

Seems odd it's been almost a year since Red and most of the other new songs premiering live with no album news. Here's hoping the month and a half gap in touring from mid-April to late May is for album promo and it dropping soon after...

Re: New album speculation 2024

And the Colour Red doesn't feel like an album track to me. The rest I can easily see.

Dino3D 03-24-2024 05:11 AM

Re: New album speculation 2024

Even if Red will be on the album, I can't imagine it on an album. It's a boring, pointless filler track that goes nowhere. It could be the most boring 5 minutes of an album.

And the Colour Red sounds like part of a bigger something to me. A bit like another silent way/drift poem/better than diamonds

Dino3D 03-25-2024 12:43 PM

Re: New album speculation 2024

Exactly! I just thought the same. In the album I can imagine it as a 2 minute part of a bigger track.

I just thought it might have been the Rowla of the album. A breather, a groove. It’s nice. Unlike Rowla it never seems to do much live but it gets a lot of incidental plays.

Re: New album speculation 2024

I like "And the Colour Red" okay, but I find myself playing the Rebuke Mix all the time. Granted, it's a pretty big departure from the original, and there are some corny sections, but I really love how it highlights the vocal snippets from Karl, especially the "my eyes go crazy" section.

Rowla is my most played track according to Apple Music :D I love love love it. It has a progression to it (granted not a huge one) whereas Colour Red starts and ends the exact same way.

The Rebuke Mix is the only way to go for me. I can't see myself listening to the original mix very much on its own.

I got all excited seeing this thread bumped.
I'll continue to be hopeful, there are still shows scheduled to occur, so fingers crossed.
It does seem to have gone very quiet though!

Re: New album speculation 2024

I'm not sure if this is still the case but for the last 4-5 years the vinyl manufacturing plants were so backed up that even if something was in the can it wouldn't be announced until 6-9 months later because you want all the formats to come out at the same time. It sucks but given that vinyl is actually selling fairly well right now a lot of artists are just forced to wait. Who knows if that's what's happening with Underworld but it's a possibility. Probably more likely that they're sitting on 7-8 new tracks and are just unsure about how to release them.

negative1 06-19-2024 05:50 PM

Re: New album speculation 2024

unless you really want to wait.

most artists just go straight to digital, and if warranted a cd.
vinyl can come later on.

honestly, i STILL don't have 'barking' on 2 x vinyl, but i'll get it at some point.
i have all the other ones though. and its not really a priority for me.

some bands do go overboard, and put all kinds of pictures discs, colored variants,
and more. i don't expect them to do that either. probably just a double LP.

Re: New album speculation 2024

Yeah, I also don't think that vinyl manufacturing could be the case of no album announcement yet. They could drop the album digital any time and then later the physicals, but I think they don't have an album yet.

But I really don't understand what was the point of releasing 2 singles (Red and Denver) years before an album. Or they remain as single only tracks.

maybe they wont be on the album.

but as you said, they could just be standalone tracks.

its not like they didn't do that way back when they started.

Itd be a shame if Denver Luna wasnt on an album. Colour Red however? We can skip that one :P

I could say the same for NUXX and Rez I guess.

Re: New album speculation 2024

If it's being released in coordination with another label again - Caroline, Cooking Vinyl, whoever - the vinyl lead time won't be quite that bad. Generally the smaller the artist/label, the longer they have to wait, and big customers get queue jumps (I know FSOL releases seem to take around four months; my last album on a tiny label took nearly a year). Plus, if it's announced two or three months before release - as is usually the case - then the manufacturing time will mostly be eaten up by that period anyway. They could finish the mastering today and still announce it in September and release it in November if they wanted.

I'm wondering if they maybe thought the album was near completion and then decided to go back and rework it a lot.

TheBang 06-26-2024 12:10 PM

Re: New album speculation 2024

Yeah, I don't think vinyl manufacturing is the issue. The've successfully done numerous single releases over the past 2 years with UMG handling the vinyl pressing.

I think the simple answer is that they're just not ready to do an album release yet. They're typically pretty methodical about the album releases, so I'm sure they have a plan for what they want released and when, and vinyl manufacturing is already factored into that.

Re: New album speculation 2024

Rick said in the drift notes that music is never finished, it is merely "getting ready"

34958hq439-qjw9v5jq298v5j 07-09-2024 11:51 AM

Re: New album speculation 2024

obviously they could do digital/CD first but a lot of bands shy away from that because if you don't have your record ready from the first week it tends not to sell so well. or so I've heard from a number of artists who pushed their release date for that reason. and yes they have gotten some stuff pressed in the meantime but maybe that was okay because they were small orders. all just speculation of course. the truth is they probably don't really think in terms of "albums" anymore and are just making tracks unencumbered by the thought. but I'm sure one will come eventually.

The Underworld logo already changed from the previous 2 singles. I think it's a bad indication for those 2 singles as maybe they won't be on an album. :/
