What happened to the Propellerheads?

They had a mix CD out in 2004, but nothing since then. I know they produced that last Jungle Brothers album in 99, but it's been a long drought since "Decksanddrumsandrockandroll" wore out its welcome in my CD player.

I seem to remember one of them being ill for a while. It looks like they've been doing the odd remix individually. Will White's last remix was in 2003, and Alex Gifford's last remix was in 2004 (of a JC Chasez solo record? ewwww) Will is also a member of the Flexitones who released a full LP in 2004.

A great band that disappeared!

Will White had been ill, and as a result of fan support, there is a track, "Prop's Vote of Gratitude" on their EP.

Other than Alex Gifford producing the Jungle Brothers last (?) album, i hadn't heard a peep from these guys since 1999.

ps. does anyone know if the Propellerheads really remixed Soul Coughing's "Circles"? i have a remix credited to them, but have never seen proof...i know Props' remixed "Super BonBon", though

They're listed as playing at this year's Earthcore festival in Australia, so it looks like they're still around in some form at least.

the super bon bon remix appears to be real. it's on the soundtrack to the fine film Dead Man On Campus.

Yeah I really miss them. Decksandrumsandrockandroll is great, I even made a very long review of it here on Dirty in my worst English. I also have their Breezeblock mixset from back in 2000 (I think). It's a recording from the radio and it's pretty neat! 4th track played is a Fat Boy Slim song but when I got that Fat Boy Slim song it didn't have that really really cool piano loop on it.

Anyway, I know nothing about that 2004 mix-cd

Turns out that mix CD is just Will White: Beatz & Bobs Vol. 2

Re: What happened to the Propellerheads?

I just found an interview with them in this week's edition of a local street press mag. Apparently they are working on a new album, but it's been fairly slow going because one of them lives in London and the other in New York, so they don't communicate on a frequent basis. "Expect something new, but not in the near future" was basically the gist of it.

Except they're British, Alex Gifford isn't exactly 'young', and their sound was damn sophisticated. You're entitled to your opinion, but are we talking about the same group here?

Nope. You are talking about the Propellerheads. Djeddy is talking about Young American Primitive.

Re: What happened to the Propellerheads?

New album from Will White (half of Propllerheads):

http://www.twisted.co.uk/albums/bbeat007cd.html

"The Flexitones album Joyrider is the latest offering from Twisted Records’ sub-label; backroom beats. The much anticipated collaboration between Eatstatic’s Merv Peppler and Will White of the Propellerheads couldn’t have come at a better time as both the artists have been gagging for the opportunity to produce music other than that with a banging 4/4 beat. This is certainly an album of difference, merging the Propellerheads seductive trip-hop grooves, and the countless influences both Will and Merv have had. The album is of epic lounge proportions covering laidback beats, modern dubs, and chilled funky grooves, coupled with the Propellerheads know-how in creating hard hitting, infectious rhythm tracks has given both Wil and Merv the opportunity, after many an intensive studio session, to express the various styles of music that both artists have been heavily influenced by and longing to express for themselves.
The album is an outstanding showpiece of the collective skills of these two artists and is certainly a development from the Propellerheads and the Hifi Companions (Wil and Mervs’ other respective projects) With the combination of trip hop beats, accelerating jazzy grooves, latino funk and cruisin’ chilled out vibes on this album the Flexitones have managed to cover all the angles and leave no stone unturned."
