Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
Quote:
things are as follows. a good friend of mine, who used to work at v2 records years ago, recently gave me a promo of a hundred days off for internal use at the record company (a so called 'industry promo', as i am told). i was going to put a post up here next week or so (after clearing some deadlines) but since this subject comes up now, here is my post. the cd turns out to be a pre-mastered version of ahdo. it's a cdr in a plain white sleeve with a photocopy of printed titles glued to the front. the album is still called 'ansum'. tracks are in a different order and it misses little speaker, which gives the album a different overall feel. all the tracks are at least slightly different from the final ahdo. most of this is due to the final mixing and mastering. but sometimes the difference is more apparent (such as longer/shorter fadeouts, or changes in percussion. the latter most noteably in trim and ballet lane). but, by far the most interesting are the much longer versions of mo move and twist. twist is more than two minutes longer: 8.47. it ends with a harder, percussive bit. damn good. and mo move, twice as long at 13.49, extends with what became the ambient-ish second part of little speaker on ahdo, but then longer. which sounds pretty logical, actually... i did not find any mention of this promo anywhere on the net... did anybody else here know of its existence? i think i saw some promos listed with this track listing, but then the actual music resembled the final ahdo... this is the tracklisting: 1. two months off — 9.07 2. twist — 8.47 3. sola systim — 6.11 4. ess gee — 2.17 5. mo move — 13.49 6. trim — 3.18 7. dinosaur adventure 3d — 7.55 8. ballet lane — 3.26 9. luetin — 7.06 total time — 61.55 swift |

I want to hear this.

that's pretty cool.. would be interesting to hear these versions of course.... i always figured there was something behind the timing listed incorrectly... you have a nice rarity there.. the order of the tracks is kind of odd though.. it would have been cool if they had added a b-side, or the track 'ansum' though.. well, keep us posted on anything else.. i know a lot of people would be grateful to hear or preview this.. later -1 |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
Hopefully the spirit that persuaded the kind person to share the Dubno DAT will also encourage Swift to share as well.
|
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
hmm.. one more thing..
what other 'imaginary' versions and tracks might be out there?! i seem to have a knack for these..... maybe some unreleased 'second toughest in the infants' ones next! later -1 |

of course i will share :)
i enjoyed the dubno dat too, and all kinds of other stuff i got through here... but not at this moment, unfortunately. a have to prepare & upload, and i need some sleep now. busy day tomorrow, but i will find some time the coming days. what shall i do? i guess i will just upload aiff-files to rtsr? indeed -1, i also wondered about the incorrect time listing on my adho promo... things always have logical reasons. and to supply the first demands, here is a scan of the cover. later, swift |

it's been several years,so a little bit longer can't hurt... either wav files or a cd iso would be the best format for rtsr.. well that's one more mystery solved! later -1 |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
I am torn on AHDO. I absolutely love 4 or 5 tracks and a couple b-sides. The rest of it is kind of meh.
|
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
Well! This is certainly interesting! Also, I never knew that Ansum was AHDO's working title. And then they named a B-Side after it... huh. Any chance this'll appear off of RTSR?

Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
Sounds interesting.
Links to RTSR are on the main born dirty page at the bottom of the page. FLAC torrent preferred over AIFF (for download size). After that I'm sure someone will repackage with a 320kbps V0 mp3. Either way, its better off on RTSR where it will be given a good home and not some rapidshare link that expires in 30days, and gets lost in a thread on a forum (amongst other reasons). |

well i had an industry promo of the finished album which was entitled, A Hundred Years, Ansum see here for details - it was however the standard album, as I checked it all against the original.... not sure where the pictures are though |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
WOW - THIS COULD BE AWESOME
but... one thing - when / if it comes up on rtsr - could someone please send me a copy through dropbox or something??? I'm on pay-as-you go internet at my Flat, so torrents are incredibly EXPENSIVE and I seem to be behind a firewall at my studio... every time I've tried to download a torrent, even with ones I KNOW are active - my torrent client acts like no one is seeding. ...additionally the timing of this is great - as I was going to try and make a massively long version of "Mo Move" (incorporating "Ansum" "Quick Bit for the Web" and those two tracks ripped from WISP that were posted up here - I forget their titles off the top of my head) |

Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
Nice one Mr Swift, I can't wait to hear this, really nice find.
BTW, im feeling technical today -> Considering its taken nearly 10 years to surface, I wouldn't categorise this as an "Industry Promo" - my interpretation of "Industry Promo" as something circulated to the music industry, DJ's, magazines etc.. and DJ's regularly clear out their promo loot on eBay, im sure we would have found this earlier. I think this could actually be something that was meant for an intimate circle of people, for feedback. Perhaps "Demo" is a more fitting term. |

Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
LOVE:
mo move twist trim luetin Two Months Off (but i'm really sick of it right now, still including it because it is a great song) Ansum kind of meh: Little Speaker (would love this if not for that horrible off-beat percussion thing) DA3D (days when I really like this but mostly it's too aggro for me) The others just kind of exist with no feelings one way or the other i.e. the cuddle bunnies of AHDO |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
I used to love Luetin, but to me it sounds dated now. Although I still like how vocally intense it gets.

What's the other 2%?
Also, I'm pretty sure I'm a member of RTSR. I mean, I know for a fact I'm signed up to the tracker. But whenever I try to use my Yahoo login to get on the FTP (mageepuppy@optonline.net), I get refused. Was I not confirmed or something? |

Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
I think AHDO is a very good album... but it could have been an incredible one had there been some changes here and there, like:
Mo Move should've been longer. Before this thread came up - I was actually about to make an 'extended mix' of it using the album version, those two tracks ripped off "Word Image Sound Play", "Ansum" and "Quick Bit for the Web" (and probably "Tiny Clicks" as well) -> now that it seems this 'early version' of the track is going to be shared... It saves me a bit of work! DA3D should've been switched for the "RCM Version" that horrible off-beat percussion on "Little Speaker" just shouldn't have existed. I would've changed the sequencing of the album as well (and probably switched some of the bsides for album tracks -> I just find "Ballet Lane" boring) I still REALLY like "Luetin" but yea... it totally sounds like it was a track from the early 00's -> kinda Royksopp-y... maybe it should've been longer as well - with a ambient intro (like how they played it live a few years ago, or on the John Peel show) Plus "Twist" was such a great song live... but it definitely doesn't have the same 'oomph' on the album version... maybe pushed Karl's guitar a bit in front more, had the track start with the percussion, then had the piano fade in (so it sounds less of a "Banstyle retread") |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
Just went through AHDO again, and I have to say that except for possibly DA3D (a little too aggro, as noted) I love every track on it. Even Ballet Lane does the trick, with the flowing guitars delivering a dreamy interlude feel before things kick back in with the bounce of Luetin. Good stuff.
In fact, reviewing it, I realized that track-for-track is almost certainly my favorite Underworld studio album, so...really looking forward to this promo!! :) |

Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
First off, thanks ,Swift! Momove has long been a favorite track and i'm looking forward to hearing this extended mix. Soopher and various live versions are great, but you get the sense they were doodling,
Quote:
Yeah, like AHDO a lot, as it was the first new UW release after i discovered them in ~1999. Momove, TMO, Twist...a fine beginning, In fact, i like all the cuts, with the occasional exception of Trim. But i agree that including some punchier versions, a la "020202", DA3d RCM mix, and maybe "Tiny Clicks" and "Little Speaker" make for a very strong LP. |
Re: Ansum — A Hundred Days Off industry promo
Well, it's certainly interesting. I never would have thought to mix the piano part into Mo Move. It's essentially Ansum, in reverse order though, tacked onto the end of Mo Move. To be honest, while it makes an epic length track, like Juanita/Kiteless/To Dream of Love and Banstyle/Sappy's Curry, I'm not sure that they stylistically go together very well. And it definitely would've needed a slashed trackname (Mo Move/Ansum), rather than just a single name. Ultimately, I like Mo Move the way it is on the album, and I like the way Ansum turned out by itself.
Now "Twist," wow, that extended ending kicks ass! I think they should've left it on there for the album. Twist in general is kind of a boring track, but that ending totally gives it a different character. I'd love to hear them jam out that ending in a live version too. What I've found on the rest of the promo: Identical to album version: Two Months Off Dinosaur Adventure 3D Luetin Differs minorly: Sola Sistim (just fades out a few seconds earlier than the album version) Trim (fades out about 5 seconds before the album version. Also, missing the final chime hit at 3:01) Ess Gee (album version has additional wind chime sounds starting at about 2:00, and the final bass note) Differs majorly: Ballet Lane (a lot of differences, subtly, starting at about 2:00) Twist (extended ending) Mo Move (Ansum mixed onto the end) |
