Personally, I've always felt that Radiohead's work is just derivative of Oasis. Like, Oasis is what they would do if they had the talent, but since Yorke doesn't have the pipes for a Gallegher melody, they go for the geek angle instead. It works, I mean, they do it well, but I've always felt that if they could write something like Champagne Supernova they'd have done so, you know what I'm saying?

Oasis stick to the same thing and have gotten worse and worse. Ever since OK Computer Radiohead have had the balls to experiment and its worked.

I've had The Eraser in heavy rotation as of late and I think it's brilliant. Thom Yorke may be an acquired taste, but he puts his heart and soul (and ego) into what he's doing and I like the personal feel of this album.

I agree 100% with that statement. Radiohead have kept rock music interesting, end of story.

As for The Eraser, it's a grower.. know what I mean? I rather enjoy "Black Swan," "The Clock," "And It Rained All Night," and "Cymbal Rush" at the moment. Yet months from now I may feel entirely different and swear off the album completely.

Right now it's working though.

I'm trying to think of something stupider to say, to see if you guys will believe that, too, but I'm having a hard time upping my previous stupidity. I would reprimand you for being gullible, except apparently some around here agree with my craziness, so I guess I can't blame you for thinking I was sincere too.

To be clear: I wasn't. On either post.

This album would have been better as an instrumental.

I saw Thom Yorke sing songs with a band called with Radiohead last night. I think they may be destined for big things.

At least Richie Hawtin is still a figure who matters in electronic music, whereas Underworld are not.

Jason Roth 08-24-2006 05:52 AM

Re: Thom Yorke - The Eraser

Are you saying that because you work for hawtin's label?

Look, Eik, if you have to be all anti-Richie because he's popular, that's fine. Too bad for you that you can't see past all the "best DJ in the world" hype. He isn't, true. He is good, though.

The min to max tour was the biggest piece of shit ever. Hawtin is over.

It's cute how you guys do that. Everything is absolute. Over/not over. No degrees of variance.

Why are y'all arguing about Richie Hawtin in a Thom Yorke thread?

he's good at what he does, technically speaking. too bad it's boring minimal shit with no groove or funk whatsoever. it's not about popularity, it's simply the whole m_nus label style i don't like.

and now go out and listen to the Eraser :p

sure! what shall we talk about now? i'm kind of bummed about e3 being downsized, personally. i know scott thinks it'll be to all our benefit, but last e3 was the most fun i've had in this place in ages.

I went to the good coffee shop this morning and the coffee i got was only so-so. I could have gotten so-so coffee delivered to my apartment by the diner without having to actually step outside on a nasty Saturday morning. The nerve of some people.

adam 08-26-2006 04:47 PM

Re: Thom Yorke - The Eraser

Speaking of coffee, I drink a lot of tea. I've found this specialty tea place that has White Tea...it's like Green but has a more delicate taste; the leaves are younger. Anyway, you're going to think I'm stupid, but I swear to god this is true: try making tea with Evian. I like the taste of Evian; it tastes a little bit mineraly and reminds me of drinking from streams when I used to hiking with my dad. I've found that it creates the absolute best cup of tea I've ever had. It's incredible. It's way better than Radiohead.

King of Snake 08-27-2006 02:15 AM

Re: Thom Yorke - The Eraser

I heard Underworld drink lots of tea too.
And I'm gonna make myself a cup of earl grey right now :)

tea ftw!

radiohead ftl!

Re: Thom Yorke - The Eraser

chinese gunpowder tea is the shizzle. i used to really like lapsang souchong, until i realised that tea that tastes and smells like feet isnt really a good thing. the queens particular favourite blend is early grey with a pinch of lapsang

Don't ask me why, but I'm listening to "Peter, Bjorn And John - Young Folks" and I love it.
