i guess it is. now that itunes is praising it as the hottest thing on earth, which is ridiculous, since podcasts are available for 2 years already.
i bet it took them less than 1h to program a podcast feature, so why all the noise? I suppose they want to jump on the wagon before it's too late....

i'm hardly using podcasts now, although i'm contributing to the de:bug (http://www.de-bug.de/pod) one (focussing only on netlabel releases). i used to grab the one from brainwashed, too, but usually half of their shows are crap ;)

Podcasting is just an rss feed of "broadcasts" (mp3 files of whatever - radio shows...) and a program that listens to that feed and automatically downloads files when new ones are available. Podcasting is an unfortunate term that has caught on, simply becuase with the popularity of the iPod you can grab a few podcasts and put them on your ipod and listen on the go. Calling it a podcast aligns it with apple, and itunes 4.9 has terrible support for podcasting - You can grab podcasts from iTunes' store. If a podcast is not in the iTunes store then you still have to do it the old fashioned way.

that makes a lot of sense... and i can understand how it is done better the other way. the legalities of it must make it hard for a corp to put it s easy to get like that... so you have to go to the undergrounder places...

hosted on your computer or someones big server? and can anyone put up a show?

a fast webspace/server is required. basically, anyone can do it if he is able to generate a RSS feed with enclosures.
