A show of two halves, no break point obvious.

A 90 min set which after a point seemed to be "let's get off the stage" ... something happened?

While I took a loo break my friend notices a paramedic presence and short time after somebody was taken away on a stretcher... I'm not sure if this had anything to do with things but it seems like the venue was closed at their choice... 10:30 all the bars are closed, prettymuch at 11PM full lights come up and no encore. Tickets were advertised until 12...

I couldn't give you a set list right now but as far as I know 2 new numbers were played.. never heard them before

Crocodile.
New?
Rez
New
?
Vibe changes....

Some of the others..

Two months off
Nuxx
Jumbo
Moaner
Pearls Girl..?

Hey Spooky

Pearls Girl wasn't in there, but I remember it as this:

Crocodile
New Track \o/
Cowgirl/Rez
Jumbo
Silver Boots with lyrics
TMO
Born Slippy (original)
Nuxx
Moaner

Don't think I have missed anything. I thought the set was pretty short for an "Own Show" too. Also Phil Hartnoll was on the running list to play before them, but he didn't (although his crew seemed to be messing about with the DJ set-up for a while after 9pm - that DJ was great, btw.)

Hope the stretcher wasn't for any of the UW crew :(

Hey BB,

Pearls Girl wasn't in there

I'm easily confused at the best of times..I think it was when Karl was shouting out some of the lyrics that got me on that.

Crocodile
New Track \o/
Cowgirl/Rez
Jumbo
Silver Boots with lyrics
TMO
Born Slippy (original)
Nuxx
Moaner

Looks about right to me.

I went in just after 9 so missed Phil.. :(

The term my friend used was "Some girl", so I doubt that it was a member of the crew.

I can tell you that the setlist was actually this below because I saw it:

Crocodile
Strumpet
Rez/Cowgirl
Jumbo
ALAF
Spoonman
Push Upstairs (*)
TMO
Born Slippy
New Train (*)
Beautiful Burnout (*)
Pearls Girl (*)
NUXX
Moaner

Notes:
Strumpet is a new song features Karl playing bass guitar and singing ("There is one bird in my house")
New version of Silver Boots (on the setlist it was Always Loved A Film or actually A.L.A.F.) with lyrics ("Hey boy... Can you feel it?"). Karl also played guitar on this track.
Pearls Girl _was_ in there. It just didnt get played :(
PU / Train / BB / PG didnt get played. This is probably because this was a "festival" gig and they were limited to finishing at 11pm. It was a 90 minute set starting at 9.30pm sharp. The venue plainly wanted people out as the bar was closed (10:40pm) when I made my obligatory toilet call during NUXX (tip: toilet is always empty during NUXX :p).
Videos of Strumpet/ALAF might show up at the other place.

Good stuff it was too...

My next door neighbour is one of the bar staff and they were expecting it to go on until 12. The Brighton City Festival site still has it advertised as 12. The steward that I spoke to was expecting the bar to be closed after 11 and after the show the cloak room was a little chaotic because the stewards plan for the evening didn't have them scheduled there for another hour. I could conclude that the venue didn't know UW were finishing at 11 which can only be down to a lack of communication somewhere.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it and now wish I was going to the Brixton gigs. :D

I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed for a DVD...I can dream

I've got to ask, is there a "Dirty Meet/ No Spooky Shoes" club?

Strumpet, outstanding.

But Always Loved a Film/Silver Boots live AND Karl working the guitar on it!
Fanstatic.
That sounds worth the price of the ticket alone.

PLEASE, PLEASE play both next week Friday & Saturday so we can get them on the CDs & the MP3s their going to post on Underworldlive after the shows!

PLEASE! (I sound so desperate. I'm like a junkie needing a fix. ALAF/Silver Boots live at a Gig! I'm gonna get high off of that for a while.)

ALAF is not Silver Boots, and I imagine ALAF will be played at Brixton and is getting a workout live because of its impending digital single release.

Nah! I happen to have Geo staying with me atm, and bumped into the Big Screen Mattelite by chance, but there was no Dirty Meet planned this time mate. Soz.

I might have a spare ticket for 1st Nov at Brixton, although it is not confirmed yet. I will PM you if I do, and perhaps we could arrange a Dirty Meet then? King of Snake is coming over for it too and there are a bunch of Dirts who should be there.

So Strumpet is an old song? No vids on utube yet! Ack.

Sounds like Rick decided to go with the more recent sound of ALAF in the April webcast. I'm not sure how I feel about the lyrics. Hopefully the earlier versions will be provided in the digital bundle also.

dubman has a good memory. Strumpet was indeed played before Confusion at 2000 Electraglide. I'm glad he said something, cause it would've driven me crazy trying to remember where I'd heard it before. Strumpet at Brighton is a bit more fleshed out as a full song though.

Vids are going up on RTSR shortly.

i almost made a video i was so hooked on it. dunno how i would justify the sound but it was one of those ideas that the track made and needed to get out
one of my fave bootleg moments ever.
and this is great because this means it's probably in the cards for the brixton gigs.

So, ALAF is more or less the Instrumental, like newest version from the April 2008 Broadcast.

But Silver Boots is the one with Lyrics 'Maggie is a doll and I'm a big sister. I'm a little girl and I'm a little princess....." like from the Broadcast in May of 2006.

Is this correct? If that is the case, then I dig Silver Boots more. But ALAF is just as juicy.

Either way, to hear it live at a Gig would be awesome. Can't wait for the release on uwlive.

I don't know what Silver Boots is exactly. All I know is the last webcast when Rick was in the chatroom, he said Silver Boots is not Always Loved a Film.

Thanks for the though but Mrs. Shoes' has birthday plans and I'm quite attached to my testicles.

Next time maybe...

"Strumpet"? I'll have to check out the old Electraglide gig as per Dubman's recollection. Another case of UW taking years to shape and perfect a track, i suppose!

Regarding "Always Loved a Film" vs. "Silver Boots"... I think it was during a 2005 radio show that Rick said something along the lines of:

"For the hardcore spotters, that was another work in progress, "Always Loved a Film", now it has something to do with "Silver Boots"

So, i guess for a time, ideas were being mashed up (as with Phonestrap vs Autotrader) and now they are split into two songs.

When played on dirtyradio 5/2006 - ALAF included the "I'm a big sister" lyrics. The latest play on dirtyradio (was it May?) didn't have any singing by Karl, but had a sample of Danielle Short about receiving a letter.

Yes, I found it interesting that TWO songs that first(?) debuted at the same show would both have such long gestational periods: Biro the Leggy and Strumpet.
