I'm wanting to, but train tickets on saturday to go are fucking stupid. Whilst i'm happy to travel down as I can go with a friend, i'm not paying £75 for a train ticket.

National Express coaches will get you back to Newcastle for £28, or megabus.com will do a seat back for less than a tenner!!
Ok, will take longer than the train, but can't beat the price, and surely worth the effort to see Underworld! :)

Is it Halloween yet? ;)
After the not-utterly-perfect UW-sensation at the Lowlandsfestival this year (as there were the hick-ups on stage, and me being too sober and having to pee :P ), I decided to go for a retry. Thus, going to UW in London, on the 31st of October! It would be fun to meet up with some of you!

Pubs are always best for a dirty meet really. The Duke of Edinburgh in Ferndale Road gets the best rating on this website (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/34/349/Duke_of_Edinburgh/Brixton).

Now that the crazy Crazysugarboy has thrown down the gauntlet, I am thinking hard about doing the Friday as well, although I will be very very busy with work that week and am likely to be dead on my feet by 9pm.

I'm thinking of making a long weekend of it and zip off to London for the October 31st show. The gig in Hamburg in spring has only increased my appetite for Live Underworld trippyness :D

In my opinion, The Dogstar is the best pre-gig venue in Brixton, been going there for years.
Does good mexican food if you feel the need, plus none of the more 'dodgy' characters of Brixton frequent it.
On a Fri and Sat night, they sometimes give you a stamp allowing you back in for free after the gig, as it stays open until 4am!
I shall certainly be there for a pre-gig buritto on the Fri and Sat.

I have just watched again the vid someone took of Pearls Girl at the Oblivion Ball (the vid which includes the bit where Rick suddenly embraces Darren) and Im wondering if the light wheel is going to be at Brixton - if so, then my life would be complete :)

Well, we're pretty sure the light wheel lives in Japan. It was at the Oblivion Ball, and then showed up again this year at Fuji Rock.

If you are still standing after the gig (remember it's a late one!), there is always the Dogstar on Coldharbour Lane (5mins walk from the Academy), open until 4am and sometimes let you in for free with gig ticket, otherwise it's about £5.

I heard that UW would be off by midnight both nights, although I can't remember where.

I was thinking of going to the Black Rabbit 2nd birthday party with Jon Carter, Justin Robertson and Guy Williams afterwards, even though it is miles away and over at 3. But if UW are off by 12 I might make it for a couple of hours of fun. :)

Sorry matey boy.. but you heard wrong. Performance times are now up on http://www.brixton-academy.co.uk/

Aha! That's that plan out the window. It starts at 8pm though, so maybe I'll go there first. Or is there going to be a Dirty meet before the show?

aux
10-29-2008, 06:59 AM
I'm off to London now, not sure when/if I'll be able to check this topic the next days. So, what about doing a little meeting before the gig? As previously mentioned in this topic, The Dogstar is probably the right location. (not too far away, and they've got food ;) ). Meet you guys there, at 7pm? :)

Meetup pubs: http://www.urban75.org/brixton/bars/index.html

The Beehive and The Prince Albert sound ok.

THE BEEHIVE 407 Brixton Rd SW9
Garishly lit Wetherspoons pub with hyperactive ashtray cleaners, security cameras tracking your every sip and hideous fake decor - but it's mighty cheap with decent food, a mixed crowd and late licence.
phone 020 7738 3643

PRINCE ALBERT 418 Coldharbour La SW9
Unquestionably, the finest pub in Brixton! Attracting a mixed and very friendly crowd, the Albert enjoys a fierce loyalty from its patrons who enjoy the cheap beer, extended hours, extremely eclectic music selection and the legacy of its legendary landlady, Pat Burke (who sadly passed away in May, 2002). Located next door to the 414 Club, this is the best place for a pre-club drink or just a pub night out. We recommend it. Look out for their poetry slamdowns, excellent quiz nights and, fo course, our massive free live music nights.

DOGSTAR 389 Coldharbour Lane, SW9PHOTO
(Formerly The Atlantic). After an excruciating period where it became the downmarket joint of choice for prowling, pill-popping, lager lads on the pull, a change of management in 2005 briefly transformed the pub into an up and coming venue. It then rapidly slid downhill again, but another refit (early 2007) saw the interior turning into some sort of boudoir which seems to have improved things considerably although this landmark pub continues to fall far short of its potential. (The Dogstar was home to our monthly FREE DJ/Multimedia/Cabaret night, Offline until we moved to the superior JAMM venue.)
Admission is free weekdays (open till 2am) although it costs on weekends (4am close). Expect a thorough but friendly frisking on your way on.

The Beehive is only good for one thing - a cheeky cheap vodka redbull before heading to the Academy. Otherwise it is full of Brixton chavs and dodgy old men!!
There is a good pub/bar that does good food just around the corner on Brixton Staion Road called the Hive... it is quite small though.
Prince Albert is ok for a drink, but I still say the Dogstar is the best, with no attitude or trouble, especially pre-gig.

I thought i heard some 'to heal' chords but that might have just been the start of beautiful burnout... anyone else?

As for bamboo, yeah i agree, like the webcast version, but with more squelchy bits. And I was moaning to the misses about a lack of underworld mash ups only just recently, so pleased to hear that

That was a great show! First time for me to hear Dirty Epic live, and strumpet sounded pretty good. No ALAF sadly but we'll probably hear that tonight.
Strangely enough Darren wasn't there, which meant that there wasn't much if any mixing between tracks. But there were some nice ambient interludes as usual.
I took a long movie of the balloon drop during Nuxx which was a lot of fun. Will post pics and movies somewhere when i get home on monday.

There was no Darren last night (maybe he was sick? he was at Brighton last week) and Rick was _very_ busy so I dont think he had time for jams! it was a more song based set with stops/starts but it was still a great set. very smooth.

DIRTY EPIC!!!!!! Boys - THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

It was an AWESOME night, quite surprised (but very pleased) at the length of the set. Thought it was a very good version of Spoonman, slighty different from the version played at the Roundhouse.

Looking forward to doing it all again tonight and seeing what other nice surprises the boys have in store for us.:D
