it's that time again. dj mag's poll for 2005 top dj's (http://www.djmag.com/top100-entry-form.php) c'mon people lets stop the craptacular reign of tiesto.

at the moment, i'm leaning towards the following picks based on their live sets:

1. james zabiela- sick beats layered in a scratching meltdown.

2. deep dish- always consistant and solid.

3. satoshi tomiie- evil and progressive.

4. nick warren- caught me off guard, dropped a slamming mix of joris voorn to close the set. shots from the gig: http://nickwarren.info/Gallery/index.aspx?addon=Avalon_LA_090705

i luv luke slater, but this dude seems to be missing in action these days. can't remember him touring the u.s. since 2000 or releasing any new material for that matter within a two year span. come back luke!!!

im surprised aphex twin never makes it. his dj sets have to be the most muppetmanic-banging sets i have ever heard.

im taking sasha on the top not because of his djing...but because he manages to mix/remix things live straight from a computer..

i know richie's been doing that for years and stuff...but because sasha has a wider audience, i think he'll take the top spot.

there use to be a time when sasha was on the top of my list, unfortunatley this past year revealed a few disappointments with both his "live" performances and attitude as a person. these days he seems to be a hit or miss (both live & dj) with lack of consistancy although, i did highly enjoy one fundacion session, a live tag team with james zabiela which was absolutely sick as one might imagine.

i'm sad to finally admit this but the dude is a shithead. his little feminine mood swings are just getting old/exhausting at this point, he completely lacks the down to earth charm as his other peers. not mention his recent cancellation of some major gigs is digging a deeper hole for his fate.

get over yourself alexander coe!!!

i don't know the man personally or these instances, but Sahsa is one DJ who gets booked by promoters to get the crowds in and then 'canels' inexplicitory...now in most of these cases Sasha has been booked without his own prior knowledge and then is blamed for the no-show, and this happens to many a big name DJ, but more often than not its a frame up by the promotor, who has to cover his ass - and its easiest to blame teh DJ for 'pulling out'

(although, like i said - i don't know these instances and sometimes DJ's do pull out letting the promoter down, but in most cases its not the fault of the DJ - who's likely to be more unscupulous - the DJ or the Promoter??)

big screen,
believe me, i'd love to give him the benefit of the doubt, but in FACT this wasn't the nature of the circumstances this time around.
