man.....
no one likes hard techno (Prodigy, Crystal Method) anymore
yet no one likes dancey trancey stuff anymore either (Sasha, Fatboy Slim)
and no one likes dnb or jungle (Aphrodite) anymore either
We need a new type of electronic music cause everyone hates everything now.

since when is prodigy/CM hard techno? and sasha/Fatboy are just old duffers who've ran out of ideas. Come to think of it, thats Prodigy too. As for DnB, i dunno, but its seems pretty popular still, at least here in cloggyland.

Electronic music's many genres never cease to confuse! Describing any one of them usually involves terms that are names of other genres
i think that Prodigy have survived the long break better than expected, with the hits comp. and a new LP in the works. Of course people dish on them...they've been doing it since 1998. Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy, Moby...all the "names" have been out of favor for awhile, b/c EDM is no longer in the pop forefront. Once people get tired of the teeny-bop bubble gum music (not likely, unfortunately) and the R-n-B kick loses steam, maybe EDM will have its day again. What goes around comes around.

The Prodigy>Underworld. I'll say it, defend it, and £> it any day of the week.
I don't think anyone considers either of the two I just mentioned, "Techno".
That was born in Detroit, and for the most part, its stayed here.
"The new album is gonna be more melodic."-Howlett.

I was grouping big beat and breaks (ol' Fat Boy) as "dancey"....not the "trancey" part (that was for Oakey) just didn't want to name every single sub-genre there is.........
anyways...who cares what sub-genre you call it - it's all "electronic music" really.

i dont think anyone has equated liam howlett with a pair of 80s style blue undies before.
that's kinda funny to think of...

The Prodigy are just living on their old hits that were on Fat of the land.
They suck horseshit.

i think he went overboard in trying to adequately communicate his distaste for their music.
UNDERWEAR/PANTS will do just fine, thank you!

I just meant they were going downhill.
I'm gonna give always outnumbered another go. Never really gave that one a chance after all the fuzz about how bad it was. I used to love Prodigy back in the 90's (hehe.. oh the good 'ol days). Since he's gonna do another album, he has maybe learned something from the last one til now.. don't know. I'm not gonna get my hopes up, but he has done some great things in the past.

Good, as in, re-releasing the same album every year....or, actually, changing as an artist? Can you handle that change?
joethelion

...as I've previously stated though
it really wasn't that much of a departure AT ALL.
And he really did mislead a lot of people with all the press how diff this album was going to be & then had Girls as a lead off single...
then you buy the album, and it's either half-assed songs and retreads of older songs and two of the songs were even from the "shit abandoned album" with minor development (Medusa's Path and Shoot Down)
but I will give you about Shoot Down, is that it's actually a good song and I'm glad it didn't change much

It's a great song. Phoenix is great, too. What's wrong with girls? It's march-beat ping-pong fun?

nononono
Girls is actually my favorite track - and it's the only actually very different song on the whole album

it's an odd album....
the first half breezes by like a not-so-guilty pleasure, and then the last half is meandering shit (cant. you. hear. mah.laaaahhhvah....UGH.) until shoot down, which aint bad.
"getting it used" would be the way to go on that one.

Question: Why are we still debating this album (AONO) a year later? Some are gonna like it, some not. But it's old news...The thread's about the next LP. At least the Prodigy are still kicking and new tunes are alway welcome, because at least some of them will resonate.
stimpee
09-01-2005, 07:53 AM
alive yes, kicking no. i was just cringing with embarrassment listening to AONO. It sounded like some 16yr old kid's bedroom project with a prodigy fixation. it ruined the good feeling i had about them. a new proper album has to come soon, and sound fresh or theyre just gonna disappear down the toilet.
