Yeah, wouldn't miss it for the world.
Can't wait for it, been whipping myself up into a small frenzy. I was a bit pissed to read a preview (in the Irish Times) where they basically said Basement Jaxx (main act) are carrying the torch for the decrepit dance music scene, but the 'emasculated' Underworld are reminders of how bad it's gotten.
You know you're a fan when you get all hot under the collar on the groups behalf...

You've got the Chemical Brothers the day before too - nice weekend lineup you've got there.

man.... those irish times fools are away with the fairies, it was probably some trainee music hack with half a brain that wrote the preview - basement jaxx are decent enough in their own way, but i'd hardly regard them as a true reflection of 'dance music'.
porn dog - did you see set times etc. listed anywhere?

The Chems - great that they're playing, but I saw them last paddys day which covered a lot of new material, so I won't be going to that.
No, no sign of set times yet, so far as I can see. I was about to post that given the poxy state of gig times in this country, we'd get a short set from UW, with Jaxx getting the lions share, but this site (http://entertainment.ie/events/details.asp?ID=2273919) says it all kicks off at 2.30pm, so it could be a full 2hour romp, starting earlier in the evening...

Yea, cant wait for saturday it's going to be legend!!
I saw the lads at the Exit festival in serbia last month and I just hope they will play as good a set.
It's absolutely ridiculous that UW are only supporting the Basement Jaxx considering they are about 100 times better. Mylo should be good too.
I think underworld work especiallly well in the dark so i'm kinda hoping that they will be late enough in coming on.
The next few weeks in our fair emerald isle are like a dream come true for any elctro lover with the chems and UW friday and saturday then electric picnic next month.

i know - tis craporama, the only positive thing is that if uw are on first you can catch half an hour of bjaxx and then head off b4 the crowds and be back in town for pintage early enough :) that's my plan anyway! hope the weather is ok - woke up to torrential rain this morning, although saturday is supposed to be good. fingers x'd.

Fingers crossed indeed guys. I'm sure you'll have a blast.
Can't make it myself - unfortunately, I'll be in the Curragh backing the GG's.
I haven't the first clue about horses or horse racing but it has to be done.

just had an email response from mcd.ie to say that uw will be on at 'around 7' - seems a tad early  anyone know what time the curfew is in marley park?
porn dog
08-18-2005, 04:42 AM
Around 7pm? Hmmm, kinda makes sense if it starts at 2.30pm (the line up isn't that big for a main stage + tent). I'd imagine the whole thing being cut off at 11-12ish, with Jaxx finishing up.
Though like I said before, the upside to that is that UW could get a full 2-2.5 hours on stage, which is fine by me...
Gig times in this poxy country are generally shite anyway. It was a pleasure to make it to Leech Rum in leitrim (http://leechrum.com/) where the nights didn't end at all, a rarity indeed. Actually they did, in a ditch drinking elderberry wine. Not a high point in my life, I must say.

have these stage times from a reliable source:
17.30 Mylo
19.00 Underworld
21.00 Basement Jaxx
looks like we'll prob get 1.5 hours of uw. such a shame they aint on last - but hey any uw is better than no uw :)
ROll on sat. Haven't seen them since they played Witness at Punchestown racecourse in 2001 (?)methinks! CAn't remember the year so that'll tell ye how good it was...They were wicked then and I hope they can live up to that show this time.
Enjoy Everybody !!!!

It's going to be absolutely savage, so true that Underworld should be headlining! Can't wait for it. As for the curfew on Marlay Park, I think it's 11, but find out tomorrow with the Chemical Brothers gig.
Can't wait for rez/cowgirl, going to blow the place apart! BRING IT ON

Just found out one of my best mates can't make it as a good mate of his GFs is getting married. Pffft. Don't know where their priorities are. It sucks seriously that he can't make it.
Still, looks like getting up into one serious weekend... It's the day after tomorrow! Woohoo!
Oh, the Witnness gig was 2003, iirc.

regarding the dirtymeet - would be good fun but alas i am waiting on some friends to confirm times for tomorrow so i can't give a definite time to hook up with ye dirts.
However, myself and the gang will be wearing our specially designed underworld / neilofest 2005* tshirts so feel free to say hello!
* by the way neilofest 2005 is my official name for tomorrow's shindig - it being my 30th birthday celebrations :) nothing like blatant self promotion, eh! ;)

Likewise with regard to the dirtymeet, I've no idea when I'll be there exactly, and a time too close to the gig start (7pm) would be iffy.
That dirtyirish tee is fucking deadly! I'll keep a look out for you, but if I don't see you, happy birthday (lucky bastard - UW haven't played my birthday, yet)!
There's good words on uwlive.com today...

Happy B'day Irishboy - nice t-shirt by the way..
Nice to hear Karl mention the Irish gig as a kind of homecoming - man I
remember when they played the Bridge Hotel (Waterford) in 95 (my very first
Underworld gig) - 10 years ago now - and they're still go'in strong.
Go'on ye good thing (As we say on this side of the water)
I can remember that Somerset House gig also,
damn that was hot, great setting for a gig.

pull your fingers out guys! just meet at the sound desk in the afternoon. its not that hard. anyway, have fun. i can say that having seen UW twice and heard a few bootlegs this summer they have truly evolved during the last 8 or 9 weeks on tour into an awesome jamming machine.

Jaysus, didn't think there was anyone else on the boards who was at the Bridge (Breen's :D ) in '96 - just showing our age I guess.
Anyway if you see me in my 'begging for it' t-shirt be sure and say HI!!
Will catch up and assess next week...

That's right, 96 - actually I think that was my 2nd gig.
Yeah - we're really showing our age alright, but who cares.
Bet nobody thought our guys would still be on top of their
game almost 10 years on. Pure class..
I can't make it to the Dublin gig this time around,
man I'm kicking myself so much.
Have a good one.

OK, this is a first approximation.
Great gig. Not the best I've seen of them, but the new stuff sounds excellent live. There's definitely a 'new' sound emerging - the likes of 'vision c'mon' - and I have to say I like the sound of it.
Tracklist, to the best of my recollection (*not* to be trusted!):
Dark Train
Born Slippy
Pearls Girl
New/Improv with Darren Singing!
<hazy memory here - a new(?) dubby melodic piece that I don't recognise. I think they lost the crowd here somewhat...>
"Vision C'mon"
Cowgirl
King Of Snake
Two Months Off
Jumbo
~1hr 40min show, with lots of smooth transitions between tracks.
No green laser, but mind you it was probably too bright anyway.
Anyone know what the craic was with the kids on stage? Were they the lads kids? There was a ~10yo red haired girl dancing like a good thing for the whole show just off to stage right... I got to meet Neil (irishboy) too, which was cool - so a fairly minor dirtymeet happened. Well, sort of.
Right, more info when I sober up a bit more and memory comes back.

Hi guys. Does anyone know who was the third guy with Rick and Karl??
Ninja Power
08-22-2005, 05:42 AM
The third guy is Darren Price, he's been Underworld's support DJ for years
They have brought him on board recently to help out with the live shows
Not sure yet how much influence he will have on the new material.

finally i've made it back to a pc.
all in all this was a good gig - i'd agree that it certainly wasn't the best ever but very enjoyable nonetheless. it was good to meet porn dog (chris) for a quick chat.
my only complaint was that there was definitely a dip midway through when the sound got a bit muffled and the connection with the crowd was lost temporarily. the new tracks sounded ok but don't seem to be the finished articles just yet - the improvs were great in comparison to the last tour with very few breaks between tracks.
a couple of observations, maybe someone who's seen this tour can help: is karl singing less and letting rick / darren just build grooves? has tmo been slowed down on this tour?
i took some video and lots of photos so i'll get these up ASAP.
it was great to see uw again and they really seem to be enjoying it :) ......now where's those 150 tracks?

I too would agree with previous reviews - a very good but not great gig. Maybe I was distracted too much by the kids dancing on stage - was great to see them interpreting the tunes!! :D
Further to the tracklisting above there was an element of Cowgirl earlier on and then Rez segued in to Cowgirl after the improvs/new stuff.
Dunno about Karl not singing as much as last tour but he certainly hasn't lost any of his match fitness - perpetual motion!!
All in all a very pleasant day out ...
