Richard Sen, formerly of the Bronx Dogs and Neil Higgins formerly of the Dirty Beatniks combine to form the brilliant Padded Cell. With a sound that draws from sources as diverse as Goblin, The Velvet Underground, Arthur Russell, Prince, Carl Craig and J Saul Kane. Analogue fetishism and creeping psychosis are key themes, as is a need to create something that is both honest and unique. It is their intent to fashion a sound that is soulful and emotional, yet also dark and narcotic; something that can be understood simultaneously by the head and the heart, getting under the skin in different ways.
The guys have contributed a live set for episode 8 of the Shock Podcast. The set is littered with Vincent Price samples. There's something about Vincent Price's voice and Hammer horror ethos in general that somehow seem to some up the Padded Cell sound.
They're currently putting the final touches to their debut album which we believe will be released on DC Records
For those in Dublin this week Neil will be DJing for us on Friday 21st of December in Crawdaddy.
Here's the tracklisting:
01 Unknown Zone
02 Signal Failure
03 TSOP (PC Re-edit)
04 Theme from Friday 13th
05 Moon Menace
06 Konkorde Lafayette
07 My Children Sleep Next to the Echo Chamber
