Taking a cue from the Red Rocks thread, cuz it's never to early to start planning (and stop lurking).
Who's going? What's the plan for a Dirty Meet? What's the liklihood of trading my crap bench seats (plus cash) for a proper seat up front?:D

I'm about to buy tickets and was gonna start sending the PM dispatches to respective dirts and see where everyone was situated.
So where is everyone situated and where is everyone meeting pre and post gig?
Mr. Warner?
Rick and Karl and Pricey going to meet any dirts too?

There's a park right next to the bowl where people often hang out before the shows. I know my friends and I will be meeting up there before the show.

well - I am absolutely going
...and my father & step-mom may be tagging along as well. If you remember, I took them with me to the Ultra gig a few years back. When he heard that I was going to go to Cali for an UW show, he flipped out... not that I was spending the $$$ - but that he wanted to go too!:D
he actually even bought tickets from a broker... I guess the seats are down in the garden boxes (or something like that - my originals were the cheapies)
but yea - I'm definitely up for a dirty meet
I'll probably need the extra people, as I'm also going to California to see my ex... and I could really see it going either way - seriously

would definitely love a meetup, though!

I'll be there. I succombed to buying a KCRW series ticket so I could get one early through Ticketbastard. I have a seat in the "superseats", or seating directly behind the terrace boxes. I'd LOVE to get one closer, so if anyone is looking to loosen their tight grasp on an extra ticket closer up, let me know please!
It turns out that the Bowl is the most convenient venue for me to get to since there is a shuttle that runs before and after that is right near my place.
Looking forward to meeting some of the people on the boards!

I know I'll be in the park next door (not the one across the street). My friends and I usually sit in the elevated area that has a couple of park benches. But a lot of that depends on how early we get there to take over the area.

09-08-2007, 09:02 AM
i really don't know the area but really would like to meet up with all of you! is there some sort of central meeting point we could agree on for this show?
we'll be leaving from sacramento at 11am and will be aming to get to the bowl sometime around 5:30pm or so...

the problem with the bowl is that it's choked full of people at the entrance and then once you get in everyone is separated into their seats.
the only decent landmarks i can think of to meet at in the venue is either at the merch table (where i assume most of us will be stopping anyway) or at the little virgin megastore hut they have set up.
merch table at 6:30(ish)? i'll be the guy with a beard in a white baseball tee with red sleaves.
or if someone has any convenient ideas for pre-show food/drinks i'm totally down.
also, joethelion your PM inbox is full so i'll call you today. i still want those tix!

hello underfans.
i'm actually going to the show with my girl after picking up some section F1 tickets last night last-minute style.
i don't think we'll make it to the 630 merch table meetup, but is anything else planned? i had thought there'd be big celebratory things lined up but it doesn't seem like there's that much love in LA...

mini-dirtymeet with joethelion (thank you SO much again for the tix!) and viddy. sorry if anyone else showed up at the merch table after we'd left.
struggled through paul jokenfold (who at one point played a loud noise what felt like i was being drilled in the ear). after all the warnings from the sf crowd i brought my ds to keep me occupied. best part was my friend jason asking "is she the DJ" when he took the stage:)
funniest thing seen: a sign at one of the cafes that said "Underworld inspired flatbread pizzas". how bbq chicken is underworld inspired i'm not quite sure.
the boys took the stage and i was a little worried because everyone in the garden boxes where we were was sitting down. also this section was filled with mostly older folks who looked as if they'd never heard uw before...after awhile it didn't matter. by the time the inflatables went up at the start of tmo nearly everyone was standing...the boys got the stuck up rich folks to get up and dance, too!

after hearing about the lackluster ticket sales for red rocks, i was a bit worried we'd have a similar situation at the bowl...fortunately it was PACKED and made for a nice moment, turning around and seeing the entire place going apeshit for nuxx.
karl was more hyped than i've ever seen him and was even dancing and running when no music was playing. it looked like he would have kept going for hours if not for the strict end time at the bowl.
i was a bit bummed by the lack of more tomato visuals, but they incorporated the built-in lighting at the bowl very nicely...and of course the inflatables were very fun.
this was my 4th show and if it's not the best, it's definitely a solid number 2 (after chicago 98).
THANK YOU UNDERWORLD!!!

AMAZING!
I took my camera in, and security allowed it, but when I took a couple of pictures before underworld came on some publicist came up to me and asked who I was shooting for. I said that I was shooting for myself as a fan, and the she said I couldn't do that. I said that I would put it away and headed back to my seat. She chased me up the stairs and said I couldn't even have it with me. I laughed at her, and she said I had to talk to some other guy. This guy told me I had to check my camera, and I said no. He said I wasn't allowed to keep it, and I told him that security checked my bag and let it through. Then he said the funniest thing to me, "well they don't really know the rules here." Security doesn't know the rules. That's good stuff.
Ok on to the real stuff. The show was utterly amazing, but I can see why people haven't been enjoying Oakenfold. He has no energy in his show. He kinda just stands there, turns away from the table and sits back. He occasionally points to the crowd, and then looks at his records again. Carmen Rizzo was awesome though. But I think the real reason there is such a difference in the shows is that Underworld adds energy as a band, but they do it by becoming part of the crowd as well. They are playful (as we've all seen before), and they never take a moment to breathe. I swear I've never smiled so much from watching a show, and I've seen hundreds of bands. Truly a magnificent show.

I laughed at the spinning glowsticks to the right because it's like someone passed them out to one section and that's it.
And yeah the laser pointers were lame. I thought people got over playing with those in the mid-90's.

Funny - A post from Cured in Aliso Viejo. I just moved to AV and just returned from the show at the H Bowl as well.
I was so relieved when they kept playing after Born Slippy - King of Snake was as good as it gets. I wish they would have hit about 5 more songs, but oh what a night!
Lesson learned: We craiglisted tix at the back of the bowl but danced and wandered all the way down to row F boxes. I assume a lot of us did;) Those aisles between every level were a party. Dance, smile and breathe Underworld and the H bowl can be your oyster. I can not believe they were as solid as they've ever been.
I was lucky to see Darren's last show at Coachella in 99 and this ranked right up there. The sound was perfect, the crowd was above stellar. I was worried that people weren't dancing for Oakie, but now that we lives in LA, I guess the urgency wasn't there?:) But the scene, sound and utter beauty of Undrworld was unbelievable. Imagining following these guys to Colorado and Central Park. Central freaking PARK. That's going to be classic as well...
Please link videos and pix to this site, If you have them.

I took a few clips with my point and shoot camera. It would only record for 3 min at a time. Seriously don't expect much from the vid since the quality isn't good and it's pretty far out, but the music can still be heard. I don't have steady hands so it's all shakey, but I'm just glad I was able to stand still long enough to take it at all.

Here's some video from the G section! (http://www.mattparra.com/Underworld.mov) Quicktime 7 required. There was a projection screen to the right of me so I shot a lot of that.
Awesome show as usual! No musical talent like this anywhere else on the planet! My favorite track by far was Beautiful Burnout, and Crocodile would have been absolutely killer live if they weren't having some audio issues during the first three tracks. You couldn't hear the melodic parts of the songs, only the drums and the basslines.
Got me some sweet merchandise, including the Underworld booklet they were selling with some nice printed artwork and Perou pictures. :)
Best act on the planet!

Anyone else enjoy the show here in "Los Anjuleeeeeeees"? All I can say is that I have very high hopes for the new album now. The songs they played that were (I assume) from the new album were brilliant. Great set overall, and I was thrilled at them opening with Luetin. Pretty funny when the stage folks were struggling to try to get those inflatable pillars to stand up, but aside from that, in the words of Karl Hyde, "fantastic".
And was it just me, or did Paul Oakenfold reaffirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's the king of mediocre, generic sounding "dance" music?

i haven't seen the US shows...obviously, but at Knebworth, and i believe they are doing it now elsewhere, i think those stupid inflatables are pretty distracting and annoying...
like, wtf is their purpose, except maybe to piss the stagehands off...
"look guys we want you to go on and inflate these ten giant day-go condoms in like 10 seconds before our song kicks in...."
"you what???"
i thought it was part of the Renaissance thing at Knebworth, but it turns out that its an Underworld thing... i somehow feel its a bit out of character with the rest of the tomato-esque 'technical & graphical' nature of the shows...
its all a bit too 'rave' for my liking...

I've missed seeing them on so many California occations i can't even count (the times or the years). i know i wasn't quite into the electronic scene yet in '96 so i missed Organic. i tried to get a ticket for Santa Monica during Beaucoup Fish but they were sold out. i tried to get a ticket for the Wilton during A Hundred Days OFF, but they were sold out. i went to the first Coachella in '99 but i was there on the second day instead of the first when they played (Autechre more than made up for it though). i didn't go to the 3rd Coachella they played, but i did buy a ticket for their show two days earlier at the Fillmore in SF and and got a flat tire on the way there, at which point i discovered i had no spare
point is i've been trying to see this show for so long that the internet was still breast feeding the first time; and IT has eluded me to the point of making it an issue i was self concious about. Did i put on the right amount of cologne? what if i don't say the right thing when i'm buying the ticket? should i bring a gift? if i do manage to get in, what if i'm too nervous? I'll just be myself. I'll just be myself. while in the meantime finding it more than easy to see Mr. Aphex Twin twice, 808 State, Squarepusher probably about 4 times, Meat Beat Manifesto dos, Plaid more times than i need to, Autechre a number of times, Orbital 2 times before they disband. to say that the Underworld show was built up in my mind is an understatement. the Oblivion With Bells tour was going to be the ULTIMATE SHOW for me.
when i found out about the Bowl show, i stopped playing WoW in the middle of a battle to buy a ticket (not really). payed $10 extra to be in the middle G1. then the first SF show poped up online and i bought one for that too knowing i could stay at a buddy's place in Oakland. i work at night cutting video for a morning news show so my sleeping schedule is really far off and there was no telling when i'd be ready to just drop if i stayed up from 1:00 AM Friday moring to the 12:30 AM Sat. morning that the SF show did get over. when i did finally step into the Warfield theatre, i though to myself that "There is no stopping this now" and since i didn't want to wear ear plugs for anything other than Paul Oakenfold, i thought "If I'm going to burn my ears on one last show, it's going to be this one."
You could see some of the tech problems but that didn't make it any less excellent. it was a regular standing/dancing venue show like i'm used to. the gay dude that flew from Portland, OR that i was talking to kept telling me to sell my Bowl ticket and that this was the show to be at...and it was but, i certainly wasn't selling my Bowl ticket. I kept thinking how wonderful it was going to be to just sit and chill at a show after this one. anyway it rocked and i screamed a lot and blew my throat out. i wanted Dark Train to dogg, but to no avail. i felt fortunate to have seen Dirty Epic live even though that isn't really my track, i know that it is a lot of other people's track and so i was there to love it for them, and i did.
Went home, woke up Sunday, hour and a halfed it down to LA, did my normal Amoeba Music stop (HA i was at ever Amoeba Music store this last weekend) and got to the Hollywood Bowl. walked in, Oakenfold was already on. good i didn't have to sit through all of it. and they got him off rather quickly by the time i got there, as it only seemed like about 30 min. of that stuff. perhaps California has a law about how much Oaky you can take in a 48 hour period. BTW who thought it would be a good idea to put Oakenfold and Underworld on the same ticket anyway? they are worlds apart. Are people really lumping those two things in together? is it only the hardcore Underworld fans (you & i) that can tell the difference? i hope not.
anyway thing that made the Bowl show the best was the perfect atmosphere/temperature and night outside, the brillant impact of the Bowl lighting setup and dome, the massive audience, that fact that i wasn't all crushed into my spot w/ a bunch of sweaty people, and above all that the set was exacted and tight. very fluid. the Underworld guys were real happy. having viewed it from farther away this time made it really grandiose as well. all that and Juanita/Kiteless/To Dream of Love, which was my ultimate authentic Underworld moment of both shows, when you've got the Bowl sunrise-like yellow lights up full glowing and Karl in red listening to the barbed wire hanging!!!! who gets over that? not i.
on the inflatables, they weren't supposed to stand up. they were just supposed to be all over the place in different directions, then the stage hands would set them up differently for the next track. it was this way at all the shows.
anyway hello i'm new,
cheers//

But I personally enjoyed the inflatables. They added a great lighting effect, and oddly enough I liked that they didn't stand straight up like they were supposed to. The leaning towers aspect was great.
agreed...though how cool would it have been to get the AHDO tour green laser going in the Bowl?!

The videos that have been posted around the forums of the Hollywood Bowl show remind me a little bit of Pink Floyd's 'Division Bell' Tour back in 1994.
Floyd modeled their stage after the Hollywood Bowl, as it was one of their favorite places to play because it allowed them to have an expansive visual presentation. All that was missing were some floating pigs.:D

You know, your right! Good catch. The lighting rig moved up and became a screen as well. One of the best shows i've been to bar none!
Nice vids everybody.

I don't get why dimeadozen is going as slow as it is. I'm only uploading to them at .1 kb/s. It should be uploading at about 60 kb/s (like all the other torrent sites would be). I want to seed this for as long as possible, but at .1 it's not going to go anywhere.
Now I only said this due to ultradave's post of downloading at over 100 k/s, but maybe it's just a matter of him being at his max down speed.

max down speed.
don't know. i'm running the latest version of azureus for mac os x and it's set to auto for both d/l and u/l.
right now i'm at 190k/s d/l and 28k/s u/l. what kind of connection are you on?
i'm on a DSL line 1.5MB d/l 384k u/l and i'm running a G5 Quad 2.5Ghz with Gigabit Ethernet...
i'm just about 50% complete now. i'll let this seed for a while - i leave my mac on for weeks at a time so this will be seeding for a while.
