Hey dirties!

Hope everyone is enjoying/surviving summer thus far. Yes, the days are getting longer (and hotter than blazes in Houston!), and hopefully the nights are getting stronger...that's up to you.
Inspired by all this heat, i mixed some of my favorite dancefloor incinerators here. Some older (i.e. 1997), some rockier, hopefully somewhat enjoyable for however you're spending your summer days:

well seeing as summer here so far has brought nothing but endless rain, maybe this mix will cheer me up :)

btw are you mixing with decks or on a computer? Just listening to the mix and I'm hearing a lot of what sounds like timestreching artifacts and kinda strange glitches in the tempo.

Yup, a computer mix. But it's not done with Ableton. In fact, i'm embarrased at how low tech my set-up is! :p

I did some chopping and extending of intros/outtros, doubled up parts of the last track, etc. The mix is ~131 bpm, which was in the range of most of the tracks. "Bang On", however, is slowed by a fair share and pitchshifted to match the "Amp" intro (also slowed, which does affect the middle break drumsounds). Good ears, KoS!

so what are you using if not ableton?

The artifacts are very noticeable imo esp in the Fluke track. To be honest I find it hard to listen to, kinda makes me nausious (sorry if that sounds harsh :))

Sorry if the mix upset your stomach..wasn't my intent! i think it sounds reasonable for the most part.

Check this for low tech...i individually beatmap the wav tracks in Sony Acid, then beatmatch tracks in almost-real-time (though as i said, i went back and made some edits on some of the transitions and added a second layer to the Garbage track, as i wanted to give it a bit more punch with vocals where there were none).

The drums during the middle break of "Amp" are quite phased in the original anyway..slowing the tempo does make it all a lil metallic...as does the fact that i encoded the huge combined wav file down to 128 kbs mp3. For the record, i always find it hard to beatmap Fluke tracks, as i have found they have a habit of changing the tempo sublty throughout by as much as 3 bpm, which makes a blanket beatmap a lil sloppy.

So, i guess i shoulda put a disclaimer...mix not for the audiophiles, just to get ya dancing:)

i'm not that into the technical mumbo jumbo of mixing, as long as it flows and moves then it's all good. and this is a good mix.

i do understand KOS' point though especially if it's a song or track that the listener really likes then they'll notice the changes in the track (sometimes it's played slower or faster etc, maybe they didnt like anything else added to it..) and it may put them off.

btw it's not that it's played slower or faster that puts me off, it's glitches that make the tempo unsteady (like the DJ is continuously adjusting the speed of the turntable), hence my "nausious" comment.
Again I don't mean to diss the mix in any way, I'm just pointing out a technical problem. :)

Maybe you should check out Ableton sometime Holden, it works really well for doing DJ mixes.
