don't you have ten tracks you could pick...right now?

without thinking...making a best of your collection CD...?

more like whats in my playlist today. today ive been listening to Belgrade Coffeeshop compilations... so it would all be chillout stuff. top 10? youre crazy.

i think i would have to think about which song is my favourite from each band (which would take an age) and which bands deserve to be in the top ten (that would take longer). Then im supposed to order them? *sigh* youre crazy.

Chicca Wacca - Alex Smoke
This World - Slam (Wighnomy Bros & Robag Wruhme Mix)
Kashmir - Led Zepp

I've heard a lot of songs, too, but there are certain ones that grabbed me and never let go. Ten of the best, not exactly in order:

Slint - Good Morning, Captain
The Waterboys - Fisherman's Blues
7% Solution - The Road and the Common
They Might Be Giants - Ana Ng
Suede - New Generation
The Smiths - This Charming Man (Peel Session)
The Cure - Fascination Street
Pavement - Grounded
Nas - NY State of Mind
The Chameleons - Second Skin (Peel Session)

This might seem unfair, but I left off Underworld just because none of you should need to be told that I love Underworld or that their songs are great. I guess if I was being objective I would have thrown Push upstairs on there in place of something else, but I'm not, so live with it! This is a pretty loose list anyway. How could it not be?

Yeah, and I still jam to these guys regularly. I initially was more impressed with their album Spooky, but at this point I feel that Split was a much better album because it has more staying power.

I enjoyed your quip about alternative music, as I can relate to how exciting those days were. You had Kevin Shields discovering the lost chord with the Loveless album, Lush, Slowdive, Ride, Chapterhouse all doing the shoegazer thing and giving you tremendously developed productions, with no comparison in sight... and you had a young genre that everyone called Electronica, that was so exciting and optimistic -- you definately felt like you were privelidged just to be there for all of it. if I could re-live that era, I would've made more money with my high school jobs so I could've bought more CDs... :D

Was wondering whether to add some of that little extra info on that godlike piece of music. The downside of it being a mix is it always seems to have been very hard to get hold of. My only encounter with the band Renegade SOundwave awas a festival in the Alps in Switzerland where Underwold played, and Leftfield were supposed to play but pulled out. Renegade Soundwave were sadly shite.

yea, rsw live varied massively, usually depending on asquith's mood or drunken state...most of the time, he'd sing for the first 3 or 4 songs and the fuck off, leaving danny briottet and whoever else the band consisted of at the time on state....however the only experience of them live that i have was awesome, gary asquith was visibly wankered, frankly anyone who writes a song called "cocaine sex" has a right to be off their tits....but they plodded through "blast em out", "space gladiator", "cocaine sex", "biting my nails", etc etc, and then when he finally fucked off they did this insane jam on "thunder" and "the phantom" and "black eyed boy" and loads of other "in dub" era shit, it was mental.....the bass was wicked hot. you'll never get a band like that again...

Ohhh man. I rarely ever consider my personal "Best Ofs" in terms of tracks, it's always about the album. But then again, there's not an album in my favorites of all time that has nothing but great tracks on it, so I'm still very much a track-oriented person.

But I guess that in order to even get a list like this together I've probably gotta pick my favorite track off of my top 10 favorite albums. Seems to make sense eh? As of May 8th 07, the albums list goes like this...

1. Beck - Sea Change
2. Pink Floyd - The Wall
3. Seefeel - Quique
4. UW - STITI
5. Massive Attack - Mezzanine
6. Cranes - Loved
7. Zero 7 - Simple Things
8. Pet Shop Boys - Behaviour
9. Boards Of Canada - The Campfire Headphase
10. (I just sat here for 10 minutes trying to figure this one out.) Slowdive - Souvlaki

So extracting my favorite tracks from this list, I guess that It's go something like...

1. Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
2. Pet Shop Boys - Being Boring
3. Seefeel - Industrious
4. Massive Attack - Teardrop
5. Cranes - Come This Far
6. UW - Banstyle/Sappy's Curry
7. BoC - Peacock Tail
8. Zero 7 - Likufanele
9. Beck - Lost Cause
10. Slowdive - 40 Days

That was too hard. But there you go.

this is crazy....

too crazy.

Indeed.

When I replied to this a minute ago, I didn't even realize that this was a 2 year old thread. Interesting to see though how my music tastes have evolved.

Much fun. Someone please resurrect this in 2009.

7. Zero 7 - When It Falls
8. Zero 7 - Likufanele

I thought Likufanele is on Simple Things, isn't it?

Anyway.
