ok, so I have four tickets to see Massive Attack tomorrow
...and every single person I was supposed to go with has bailed on me....
I was going to basically just drive straight from class here in Iowa City, and drive straight from there to the show
so I was just wondering...
(a) does anyone need any tickets? (I have at least 2 spare)
(b) is anyone here going to the show? Maybe we could meet up in line or something (if I end up even bothering to go)

Bother. It will be well worth it. I caught them in Phoenix this go round and the place they played was a very intimate space. Furthest chair from stage was only 75 feet.
The whole band seems to be playing much more comfortable than their first go round back in spring. Especially the bassist(whoever he is, I swear he seems to be the mother/father figure presence on stage) and the guitarist, did a little more well treated improv than when I saw them in Denver.
ON A SIDE NOTE: If Pat Benatar happens to be playing in the same area as she did the next night at the same hall, don't miss her! I was at first reluctant to go, but my eyes have been opened to one of rock music's royalty. Her husband is one of the best musicians I've seen in my life(Guitar, Drums, & Bass), and it's a shame she & her band haven't been more reconized as the professionals they are. One of the funniest concerts ever, it felt like being at a concert in Europe with so many people happily singing along.
(sorry 'bout this off topic, but I will forever relate it to my MA show :o )

well...
I eventually guilt-tripped one of my friends who originally backed out to come tomorrow, and I found one other person to tag along
so now I only have 1 spare ticket
...but my tickets for the show in Washington, DC - still kinda in limbo now

WOW
that show was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!!!
first of all, they played a really cool, amped-up version of Butterfly Caught
and Daddy G was gone on "paternity leave" but honestly, you really didn't miss him from the show. The only time it was a bit 'weird' was during "Mezzanine" and not hearing "you know you've got a heart made of stone..."
- also the lyrics to Mezz were changed a bit. I couldn't make out the words, but 3D definitely added another verse or two towards the end of the song (and didn't include the 'all these half floors' part)... unless that track wasn't even Mezz to begin with!
I can't remember the exact order of tracks, but they definitely played
False Flags, Risingson, Mezzanine, Angel, Hymn of the Big Wheel, Man Next Door, Black Milk (Redux), Butterfly Caught, Inertia Creeps, Future Proof, Safe from Harm, Unfinished Sympathy, Teardrop, Group Four (end of show crazyness)
...and
Live with Me!
now - I couldn't quite understand what was said before Terry Callier came out on stage. It was either like a standard "hey, this guy's from Chicago" introduction, or it was like -> he's not touring with us, but because we're in Chicago, and he lives here - we're going to do this song
which was... awesome!
also - they actually had Elizabeth Fraiser sing Teardrop, Black Milk, and Group Four. I couldn't get over how ephemeral, yet clear her vocals were. Like, I just kept thinking "this is unnatural, I shouldn't be able to hear her... she's singing sooo incredibly softly - yet so clear"
(edit)
also - I totally forgot to mention... I've never seen 3D actually EMOTE that much during songs! Like from live stuff I've downloaded, and at the Hurricane Festival a few years ago - D kinda just stands around, does his lyrics, maybe wobbles / dances around a bit
but last night - he was making tons of hand gestures with the tracks (especially during False Flags), and used a lot more facial expressions. He even was a bit chatty. And danced
...a lot
seriously - he was like shadow-boxing and "Throwin' dem bo's" through the majority of the concert
->
and even getting there was hectic. Basically yesterday, woke up - did my online coursework, went to class and left early, rushed back to my apartment... just as my friends were getting there
we made it into the theater just as the opening guy was saying goodbye, and they were doing soundchecks for MA... just making it.
then, after the show - we drove back to Iowa City (after getting lost in Chicago for like... an hour). I didn't even get to my apartment until 4am this morning. And I still made it to my 8am class today!
oh, and dubnobasswithme - you totally suck!:p
I had checked my PM's just as i was leaving to the show... while my friends were standing outside my doorway harassing me about being late. So I didn't have enough time to write back to you.
Do you realize that I was standing literally right next to you outside of the show, facing your direction until the cops & security people said we couldn't hang out in front of the venue anymore?
I didn't come up to you b/c I had already thought I had seen you earlier during the show (it wasn't you... I looked kinda like an ass). And I figured, if it was you - you'd recognize me from my photo - and assume that I never got your PM with yours
but oh well, I guess - I mean... right after the show, I had to turn back and head to Iowa anyways
Yeah I saw them too, including the crazyness after Group Four, amazing eh? :D
I always loved Black Milk on Mezzanine, and hearing it live blew me away. Less triphoppy, more rockband-ish, and the lyrics BEAUTIFULLY sung.

damnit! i thought i had a good enough memory to pick your face out of a crowd, but i guess not. part of me was just hoping you'd call my cell and that would eliminate the "hey, you sort of look like the person i'm supposed to meet here" game, but ah well! check your pm box and email me your addy so i can get that disc to you :)
and yes, i really enjoyed myself at this show last night :D

yea - I was kicking myself that I didn't write down your number
but (unless it wasn't you) at one point I was almost basically standing directly in front of you. I was wearing a black hoodie with a red tshirt, and was standing with a tall-ish brown-haired girl, waiting for one of our friends to buy their tshirt f/ the stand at the front doors
were you with a blonde girl and a guy with a leather jacket?
