View Full Version : Shine On, Syd...R.I.P.
Syd Barrett passed away on Friday from cancer. He was sixty.
I had just read a really interesting article on him a few weeks ago. Poor fellow. Fascinating story.
For instance, I didn't know that Gilmore and Waters were integral to his solo albums. They decided that to help him pull himself together, they needed to make him productive. They did the first one, and it was such a difficult process that Waters said he couldn't handle doing another...so Gilmore and Wright (I think it was Wright, might've been Mason) stepped in for a second go.
Unfortunately, their efforts seem to have been mostly in vain.

Another interesting bit I was reading was about how he would show up for performances and he was so obsessed with doing something original that it would completely paralyze him. That was part of the problem they had. He wanted every moment to be original, innovative and fresh. Poor bastard. I'ma listen to Piper tonight.
