Almost everyone likes a few types of electronic music, so I thought I'd ask here.
I'm in the process of recording all my vinyl to MP3 for listening and digital maniuplation (Serato Scratch Live) purposes. I only in the recording stage right now, but I've been thinking over everything I have to do. One of them is ID3 tagging.
With CDs, I usually just set albums to a certain genre. But since I'm recording all my vinyl, I'm wondering if I should still follow that. It might more tedious, but better in the long run if I specifically set the right genre for every track I record.
Maybe I'm being too anal. Any thoughts on this? How do you handle the genre tags?

for serato, honestly, genre tags are going to be only slightly helpful. you'll want to attach keywords like "tribal", "percussive", "strings" etc to help you pick out sounds and vibes. You'll know what genre the songs are because they're your records. genre tags, for me, are pretty worthless, it's the other comments attached to the track that make searching useful. i'd stick with general genre tags then put these other descriptive terms in the additional comments field.

I tend to not go deep with genre tracks anyway. House, Tech House, Techno are as deep as I go.
I'm just torn with records that have multiple genres on them. Some records have a house track on one side and techno on the other. Can't decide if I should label each track seperately or the album as a whole.
I know, I'm just being overly picky. Can't help some OCDs. :)

i name everything electronic if i get around to it, i'm lazy and i don't really care about the genre anymore, just if it's good or if it's crap...
